No need to trade anything higher than a 5th for a "lazy" guy who has never played the 3-4 and will be released...

I'd rather not trade Vilma for a guy that could get cut anyway

If we get Rogers Vilma suddenly becomes more valuable to us so I'd rather give up a 4th or 5th for him instead

Agreed but don't believe that he should be traded.

i actually really like this idea. getting rid of drob (who seems like he's on his way out anyways) and maybe see what vilma can do with a big fatass in front of him.

rogers was one of the main reasons for the detroit collapse this season...he became a complete bum
nothing worth trading for, but wouldnt hurt to sign...the problem is...why would a lazy player want to come and play out of position for a tough coach? he wont and will sign elsewhere

Wow. How do people not want to get this guy? He is one of the most talented DT in the league, and whether or not he is "lazy," he, year-in and year-out, is considered to be a top player at his position. In fact, this season, the same one in which he exhibited so much laziness, he notched a career high in sacks. Rogers is not jsut some big scrub 340+ lb. guy that we are considering taking a 7th round flyer on him, he is one of the best DT in the league, who has the size to play a position we are in need of, and we can get for a cheap price this off-season. The only downside I see is his contract, but besides that, when you can trade a 3rd or 4th round pick for an exceedingly talented guy who fills one of our biggest need positions, you go and get that guy, whether he is lazy or not. We are not going to find a more talented and humnogous NT this off-season, so I do not see the hesitance. Put in an offer, Tannenbaum!

EDIT: Also, all those who say that "Well, Shaun Rogers has never played in the 3-4 before." There is NOBODY available this off-season who is going to be an immediate impact NT on our defense. So why not get the most talented, and the biggest, of that group?

just as i mentioned about randy moss, charles woodson, in the past all he needs is a change of scenary, shaun rogers will be a force in the jets and will get in shape, all we need to do now is get him and our completion of the defensive line will be in order.

There is no excuse not to get him.

Based on Rogers current contract we surely are not going to get him for cheap. And, if he is a potential player that is not willing to work, I definitely say pass.

I really think he should just go camping with Cedric Houston.

We could be our "Randy Moss" if the price is right. A player with a tainted past who needs a change of scenery and ends up being a tremendous bargain free agent pick-up. A losing environment can bring out the worse in people. Detroit (the city and the team) isn't exactly a situation that I would consider to be in revival mode.

Deserves a look at the very least.

If he truly is a lazy player, then there are teams that will put up with that for a while, but sometimes a player has a season like this and is ushered out of town and it serves them as a wake-up call because careers in the NFL for players that get lazy tend not to pay very well, and tend not to last very long. Anywhere he goes, his new contract will be incentive-laden and he will be forced NOT to be lazy or will be cut.

I don't think that going from one losing situation in Detroit to another one in New York will change his attitude. He is not a Tangini guy and they will not sign him.

Trade a third rounder for him switch to a 4-3 and your problems solved!

DRob and Rogers in the middle would be ridiculous....

Thats wishful thinking if i have ever heard it though. Mangini and his stupid 3-4

I wonder exactly what they meant by "lazy"? Was it a practice thing? He looked strong in the few games I saw him in........

i actually managed to watch nearly all of their games this season...and the defense survived off turnovers early in the season and when teams stopped turning it over...the lions stopped winning
they couldnt stop the run or the pass
not solely rogers fault or anything, but he took alot of the blame from fans and the coaching staff...based on performance/attitude/contract
it is the lions though, so i can understand giving the guy some slack, but as a injury risk/type of player he is...i dont see the front office trading for him (or being competetive enough against someone else who might want him)
and if for some reason he hits the open market...i dont think the jets would make a competetive enough of an offer
obviously, nearly all jets' fans would be ok with an incentive laden deal without much risk and without giving up picks...or even giving up just a 5th round pick....(but that scenario could be said about any player we bring in)...and i just dont think he would come here
there are alot of other free agents i would like to see the front office focus in on...but as for NT's there isnt much to offer...i think the SF backup NT likely will hit the market and would be a decent addition...just based on experience and youth
