Adam Scehter reporting that Bill Callahan spent today with the Jets. Schefter said he would be the pefect complement to Schottenheimer.

"Adam Schefter of the NFL Network reports that the New York Jets interviewed former Nebraska coach Bill Callahan for their vacant offensive line coach position.

Callahan, who was fired after a tough year at Nebraska, is still plenty respected in the NFL from his days as head coach of the Raiders team that went to the Super Bowl in 2002. He earned a reputation as an offensive mastermind in Oakland, and his arrival in New York would likely help the Jets improve their running game."

    Did I miss a firing?

They say "vacant offensive line coach position", but I don't recall any announcement of that vacancy opening up. (not that the OL coaches--we've got 2--were expected to be brought back after last year's disaster).

Callahan would be better off working for Gruden with the Bucs.

I think a rotted tree stump would do better than Wise.

Looks like a step in the right direction. I'm in favor of bringing in anyone with a good track record.

You'd think this would be the natural destination. Gruden got rid of Bill Muir and he worked well with Callahan before.

Tampa Bay made the playoffs without their best player on offense: Cadillac Williams.

I'm pretty sure Gruden will keep his job.

^ Gruden is going into the last year and there has been no talk of resigning him as of yet. Aside from winning a superbowl in year one with Tony’s team – he has pretty much been a total failure in Tampa Bay.

Also - Pontiac was pretty much crap before he got hurt. Since his first four games - the Pontiac has had a flat.

Top ranked offense? Just to let you know when he was in Oakland, Gruden was callin the plays, and when he was head coach there..... he got fired didint he?....I dont know what he did in college as HC but there are very few who make that transition into NFL, and he is an example......

Heard an awful lot about him today on the sports animal in tampa area.....I mean alot and he essentially was Gruden's "yes" man :grin:

    1.Gruden wont be fired.
2.Callahan is a great offensive mind, I wouldnt mind him on the jets staff one bit. I simply think if its between going to the jets, or going to tampa, he goes to tampa.

All I've read about him is that he was considered one of the top offensive minds in the game when he was the coordinator in Oakland.

By the way, the only year Oakland's offense ranked #1 in yardage was the year after Gruden left and Callahan was in charge.

Uh ..... yeah.... Thats when he got fired, ranking #1 in yardage isn't all there is to being a great offensive mind..... hell they said the same thing about Hackett.... need I say more?
Look I am not tryin to bust your chops, and I don't know all there is to know about Callahan, I'm just sayin, I am hearing as many negative things about him as there are positive.....I just don't think he is a good fit with the jets..... now ya wanna 'nother name we should REALLY look at, see if we cant lure Dan Henning away from carolina.... now that would shape things up quite nicely:wink:
