He'll have to be able to pass a physical before another team gives up good value for him. He isnt there yet, so i think it's kind of a moot point right now.

How are they hinting that Vilma is going by saying that Pennington is staying?
For all we know, the Vilma hype may be coming just from this message board.

There is no reason whatsoever to keep Vilma.

That's it in a nutshell. Right now Vilma is of absolutely no value to anyone (including the Jets), so it's not even meaningful to talk about him leaving.

He's one of the best 43 middle LB's in the sport. He has value.

Vilma will be lined up right beside Harris next year, for one of the dominate ilb duo's in the NFL. *maybe* lol

I doubt that happens. He can't play in the 34.

Despite the fact that Vilma was a shadow of his former self in the 3-4, that doesn't change the fact that he was STILL arguably our best LB before Harris entered the lineup...

If the right deal comes our way, I'd deal Vilma, but, otherwise, I'd say you keep him around, and, hopefully, with an improved front 7, and Harris next to him, Vilma will be better next season

Right now he is quite far from one of the best 4-3 middle LBs in the sport, since there's no way of knowing if he can play at all. That's life with the Mangini Jets, where injuries are state secrets. Why would any team be interested in him at this point, when his playing status is completely up in the air? No team is going to be the slightest bit interested in him until he gets back on the football field next summer. Until then, he has no value.

He played with harris this year and did nothing. They need to dump him.

i was just wondering....i personally want vilma here until his contract is up, he can be mismatched in the 3-4 but i would rather have him than barton or hobson

He's no better than Barton at this point. Hobson is a OLB. If he has any value the Jets have to use it to get draft picks. This rebuilding process requires that.

I thought the two always switched with each other. I dont remember seeing them on the field at the same time.

If we can get a DT, the LB will have some time to work their stuff.

As for dealing him, hes hurt right now and is coming off surgery. We would be selling him awfully low in value so Id say give him a year at least.

Sure there is. He's likely to be much better than any player we'll draft in the 4th round(which is all we'll get for him at this point).

Id rather give him a year next to Harris to try and re-establish himself than trade him what would probably be nothing more than a ST's guy for 2008.

That is true. Although Vilma is not nearly as good as he was in the 4-3, and in 2005, he still did rack up 117 tackles last year, which isn't too shabby, and was on the pace for 100 this year before he got injured. Barton nor Hobson didn't even come close to that this year.

we can?t give him one more year, he?s a FA after next season. What our FO basically has to figure out, is if we could keep him on after his Rookie Contract. If he wants to leave after next year, we gotta deal him no, if he?s willing to resign here, we keep him.

But after how that hole injury was dealt with, i wouldn?t bet much that he?s willing to stay here.

Barton and Hobson are imo both better suited to play the ILB, i think we?re all right with those two and Harris to rotate at ILB.
