Same instance with Mariano, and even Sapp.

Also, I remember reading a Daily News article a while back that was about how the Jets planned on taking Peyton Manning, but he decided to go back to College for 1 more year (I think that's how it went). They even had a photoshopped picture of Peyton in a Jets uniform.

Not only did the Jets want Favre, but Holmgren was at the top of their coaching list in 1990. However, he decided he was not ready to a HC and stayed with SF. The Jets ended up with Coslet. One year later, Holmgren went to GB. So the Jets just missed out on Favre and Holmgren!!!!

I was in a good mood....... waiting for dinner to finish cooking, waiting for the O-bowl to start, and sit down with a fat meal and cold Newcastles then I decide to check GG in the interim......... a harsh reminder that reality sucks :shit:

I hope I'm wrong* but I think we might relive the Favre-Nagle saga all over again if my man Charlie to the left ever gets his chance.

*a sick part of me hopes I'm right

How about Bryan Thomas and Ed Reed. I still have the 2002 Sporting News Special Draft edition that has us picking Ed Reed. We ended up picking Bryan Thomas with the 2nd pick and the Ravens picked Reed w/ the 24th pick. Now that I think of it this is more of the opposite we wanted and most expected us to pick Ed Reed but the FO had other plans. Funny thing the magazine projects Bryan Thomas as a mid-round pick; the authors and editors must not have been invited to attend the combine.

The Jets passed on Marino though...The Favre pick ended up hurting more in the long run becasue they really wanted him, traded up to get him, tham he gets picked by the Falcons one pick before, who in turn really didn't want him.

Stuff like this only happens to the Jets

No doubt that was a bad decision Champ - but I'm used to that with the Jets! I think what stings most about Favre is that the Jets had their heads on straight for once and wanted the right player... and they got pipped to him by one place in the draft.

Also, KOB was serviceable for a period (better than serviceable for a very brief period) and got the Jets in the playoffs three times, so at least he was no Browning Nagle.

Didn't Vinny get to the playoffs twice? Or am I wrong?

Yes, Vinny took the Jets to the playoffs in 1998 and 2001, but he wasn't particularly impressive in 2001. He was kept on a tight rein by Hackett to limit his interceptions.

I agree with the O/P and Cakes that this was worse than Marino , Marino had his controversy coming out which is why he fell so far. On the other hand we were targeting Favre and didn't have the foresight to jump a pick or two ahead of the Packers , which if I remember correctly ws not a huge surprise they were looking at him also.

Just as I was not on the Clemens bandwagon before this season , I was not on the Nagle bandwagon and was pretty bummed after that draft , I was not as bummed with th O'brien pick.

Look at it that the Jets are doing their part for the economy by having employed more guys , selfish Packers only giving a paycheck to one guy to start for 15 years.
