You're missing the point. The offensive problems are a quicker fix via free agency. Are you comfortable with the Jets spending millions on Terrell Suggs, who has had 3 straight down seasons? I'm not. I'd rather see us spend the money on proven, young offensive lineman and focus the first round of the draft on the defensive play maker we need. A top ten wide receiver probably isn't going to make a ton of difference right away. Ask the Lions. -X-
I have to agree with you. Not to mention it will take time for young lineman to learn how the NFL works. I mean, not everyone is Nick Mangold. I would like to pick up 1 or 2 lineman via Free Agency for that reason alone.
And that would be fine. The Baltimore Ravens won a Super Bowl this way. Let's get one side of the ball dominating the game. Then, we can work on the other side to get us where we want to go. It took a few years, but the Colts built their offense to an elite level then got the defense to catch up.
Ryan was fired therefore there is no tampering.... you have to consider the source as well. PFT when do they have all the facts before reporting a story. Oh it sound good, run it.......
Do you remember the Balitmore Ravens Super Bowl team from a couple of years ago? Horrible offense...that didn't turn the ball over and a dominant defense. I agree that we need at least two more o-linemen and another receiver, but there isn't anyone worth taking for offense at pick 6.
Mike Martz just got canned by the Lions. He would be an upgrade over Brian Schott. at O. Coordinator.
Itd be crazy for such a young coach to bring in Martz, as Martz still acted like a head coach in Detroit and tends to butt heads with the other coaches in the sideline.
Rex or Rob Ryan as our new defensive of coordinator???????????????? we get Rex do I dae to say Suggssssssssssssssssss?????????????
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3177174 Its on ESPN now, so its looking more and more official.
hmm..he was fired because he sucked. He took a good returning defense and made it atrocious this year. And all the morons on this site get excited about this? Perfect Jets fans.
Yeah my Raiders friend had some complaints on him and the type of Defense he ran against specific teams. He said it was a late christmas present to see him leave Oakland.
Looking at the Raiders forums people for the most part seem to be ok with or happy about Ryan leaving. It seems like he doesn't have the in your face approach some here seem to think he has, and that he's very soft on blitzing and players tackling. They were also saying though that he was severely handcuffed by Al Davis and the man defense that he wanted him to run, and that the talent on the Raiders defense is shit for the most part, with the exception of a few guys.
One thing we would need to realize is that Mangini is a ex defensive coordinator himself so he will get the FINAL say on things, he will just get another person's imput in Rob Ryan.
The Jets, meanwhile, ranked 18th in the NFL in total defense, giving up 331.9 yards per game, and allowed 355 points. Not too bad. With a few moves the Jets could have a Top 10 Defense in 2008.
According to Jeremy Green of ESPN Some say the Raiders defense has underachieved at times this season, but how consistent can you be on defense when you get inconsistent performances on offense every single week? Last season, there was a lot of animosity between the offense, defense and some of the coaching staff, but it was Ryan who worked behind the scenes to keep the team together. Some were lobbying for him to get the job this year and he has the coaching pedigree to be successful. The coaches that work for him and the players that play for him swear by him. He deserves an opportunity to take the next step. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=green_jeremy&id=3152031 Bob Sutton will probably end up in Miami with Parcells as their LB coach.Parcells and Groh hired Sutton in 2000
I think our D has the potential to be very good if we can add a big lineman. Now that we have Harris established, Vilma can come back and be effective alongside him, not having to be the main guy. The secondary has good young guys, we just need a more consistent pass rush and better overall D-line. And most importantly, the D needs to play the whole season the way they played after the bye the past two seasons. That to me is on the coaching, they need to figure it out a lot faster.
Mike Florio is a douche that lands a hot scoop maybe 3-4 times a year, and makes shit up the rest of the time.
