There a big difference between wishing and getting. This franchise now needs to show how serious they are , GETTING these players in would be a start.....
berrian is an interesting name out there..... geez, imagine haynesworth and gholston as additions to the front 7. jil
I feel like we hear the same thing every offseason, about either Bradway or Tannenbaum. That being said, if Tanny really is committed to turning this team around, I'll be thrilled.. I'm on record as saying I am very, very, very disappointed with the work that Tangini has done here so far, and a lot of that can be brought back to their frugality when it comes to the offensive and defensive lines. If we can bring in a solid veteran on each line, plus one big-time FA elsewhere, I may have a little more faith in this regime heading into next season...
I agree with you on the job Tanny has done in free agency. But I think he has done well in the drafts thus far. That being said, he had better be a big player in FA. Not that he has to get the top names out there, but at least get good quality on both lines.
Well i would rather have Berrian as opposed to Mccareins...At least Berrian has potential, and is actually a deep threat...
"The early word is that Mike Tannenbaum, known as a frugal spender, is prepared to be a big player in free agency. Don't be surprised if the Jets' wish list includes Baltimore Ravens OLB Terrell Suggs, Tennessee Titans DT Albert Haynesworth and Chicago Bears WR Bernard Berrian." I would love Suggs, but there is no way he's not getting franchised. Bascially the same goes for Haynesworth. I'll pass on Berrian and look for a better guy in the 3rd or 4th round. No OL? For a guy writing for a NY paper, he really is blind to the Jets most pressing need.
That's good news. I hope we go after Samuel too, who definitely won't be franchised (Pioli promised him he wouldn't franchise him if the Pats won 12+ games). Samuel & Revis would be amazing in the secondary. I'd think about trading the #6 for Suggs, who only just turned 25.
Why would we ever need Samuel? We just drafted Revis, and our secondary is fine. Sure, adding a guy like Samuel wouldn't hurt, but he would command a ton of money, and I can think of a lot of positions that I would rather spend money on than cornerback, namely QB, WR, LG, RG, RT, NT, DE, or OLB.
the problem is mangini is hard to sell. he runs nasty camps and these clowns can get big money from a "players" coach. they might have to overpay. if they do land guys like this then they draft OL. And you probably have another year of jailbreak pass blocking. I would love Haynesworth. I think Suggs may get franchised. Of course, a new coach down there might think different, especially if it is an offensive guy like they say Baltimore wants. Berrian or someone like him is a must for this offense. I would really like a premier FA OL man though. A real good one and a steady one.
I can understand not spending to the cap if you don't think there is enough talent out there. It just hamstrings you for the the next season and the one after. But a 4-12 season sends out an alarm. And there is talent out there.
Haynesworth has a vey good chance of either being franchised or signed because the Titans have more cap room than us. Baltimore is only 6 mill. below the cap and they need a QB; Suggs might very well be available.
Suggs and Haynesworth are pipe dreams. They are going to get franchised and make trading/signing for them cost prohibitive. The real work to be done in Free Agency is shoring up the Offensive line. They need to get at least one of the top Free agents for Rt or LG, preferably both. It looks like one to the better defensive players will be available at #6 either Gholston/Laurinaitis or whomever. That will either shore up the inside or give the Jets a player they sorely lack on the outside. Laurinaitis would make trading Vilma a must. Shoring up the O-line will make the draft a ton easier. The Jets will be free to pick the best available player pretty much no matter who it is. Another thing I think the jets should do is get some depth in the Secondary (CB) and (WR). Tannenbaum has drafted rather well, hopefully he continues that trend. If he does and he can improve his free agency signings the Jets will be in a much better position then last offseason, which had a shit for free agents versus this one year. Anyway here is keeping my fingers crossed that they can get some decent Free agent options in. It seems from what I have been reading, despite Mangini's tough camps the players do not dislike playing for him. So it is not like the Jets are going to get summarily shot down by every free agent, especially if they open up what will most likely be a substantial checkbook.
I agree that Suggs has got to be the top target....young and dominant. Samuel is a luxury....too many other needs that can be filled with his money. Berrian is the best WR available, but he is nothing great. Unfortunately, it's not the greatest WR draft either. It is a position that needs to be addressed this offseason though....interested to see what happens with Coles.
I like Suggs but i dont really want him that much he kinda fell off this year when Thomas left, the great thing about him is that he never get hurt. But i would still rather get Gholston or Groves. Haynesworth unless we overpay isnt an option, Berrrian is very realistic, and alos we need to traget Gibril Wilson.
Berrian has great hands. He made a few of the best catches of the year this season. Berrian has been a victim of terrible QB play...some would say the same thing about our receivers. I want a true number 1, and Berrian really isn't a true #1. He is a nice deep threat though. We haven't had one of those in a while.
