07:44PM - Jets Release Adrian Jones, Eric Hicks Tuesday, December 18th, 2007 by Gary Grund The New York Jets have announced that they have released offensive tackle Adrian Jones and defensive lineman Eric Hicks. Hicks (6-6, 280, Maryland), a 10-year veteran, was signed as an unrestricted free agent (KC) on May 22. He appeared in 11 games this season, recording 23 tackles with eight solos. He was named the Jets Practice Player of the Week after the Dec. 2 win at Miami. Jones (6-5, 296, Kansas), a fourth-round selection (132nd overall) in the 2004 NFL Draft, appeared in seven games this season. He appeared in 44 games during his Jets career, recording 16 starts, three at right tackle, 13 at left tackle. What purpose does this serve? I don't get it
Well Hicks had no future here anyway, but cutting Jones considering our extreme lack of decent OL depth seems silly, at best
I normally do not like answering a question with a question but here goes: Q.) how does this benefit the Jets? Q.) How does giving 2 rosters spots to 2 worthless never get on the field POS's benefit the Jets? Anwser mine and then you will answer yours.
True, but even our starting OL stink... You'd think we'd leave him on the roster for depth at least for the final 2 games
It opens a roster spot for Bender who may finally see some action. We also don't know if either Hicks or Jones did something behind the scenes that pissed off Mangini.
and terry boobway was so adamant before the 2005 season that Jones was our RT of the future ("trust me on this one")--and yes boobway still is with the organization for reasons unknown (his assessment of starting talent?)
I agree with you about Hicks....but jones did give us a little depth by the way the hicks sig was the only one left so I took it....lol :shit:
You release guys if you want to take a closer look at people on the PS or FA. If they have no future with the team, might as well see what someone else can do.
i don't get it either.... is there cap implications like the cap hit will affect us this year rather than next year? if not the only explanaition is that we open 2 roster spots for other players they seem to like and maybe motivate some of the younger players and reserserves to play harder on special teams and the practice squad considering now there is two more available spots on the roster.
Seems like the CS decided that these guys weren't part of our future and decided to open up space to try out guys who may be. These last two games seem like a good evaluation period leading up to the draft and FA. I too would like to see what we have "waiting in the wings" and what we blatantly need to address in the offseason.
If Adrian Jones couldn't get back on the field this year he never was going to. I have no problem with the release on that basis.
It opens two roster spots, it's obvios they have their eye on two players from someone's practice squad.
Right, why not take a look at what guys like Bender have in them now while we have the chance to. I have absolutely no problems with this.
