Sheriff Goodell sent everyone a memo first and told them to cut it out.

    Did you get the memo?

Right, but I'm pretty sure he meant that if the NFL knew about this and it was such a significant issue (which safe to say most Jets fans on here would say it was) then why wouldn't they just step in and stop it right away?

This will get my flamed but here it goes. I'm going to have to agree with the ever so eloquent BillBelichick07 and say that its because the league knew it wasn't a huge deal in terms of competitive balance and the Jets game was just the final straw where the NFL basically responded by saying "are you fucking retarded? we warned you like 8 times. don't do this." The punishment may have had to do more with the principle of the Pats ignoring league policy than them actually cheating to gain a competitive advantage.

I agree in principal to what your saying but, to say a coach thumbing his nose at the rules and the commish isn't a big deal is just silly... especially after he was specifically warned to knock it off...

That is the real reason why the commish had a hair across his ass against Bill. He was fined more because he laughed in the NFL league office's face than anything else. Every team did what the Pats did (maybe hid it better and all), but Bill was just outfront about it. No advantage to any team filming... they all did/do it.

Anyways.... because of that and Magini's wanting to be a fat little rat... the Jets will be the main recipient of a bukakke-fest being thrown by Bill Belichick. It is what it is.

Proof? We don't need no stinkin' proof!

Be ready for a very ugly day for the Jets. It will be historic.

I second this.....obviously Goodell saw something in those videos to give the Pats such a *big* punishment. Your "everyone was doing it" argument doesn't fly.

I think he does believe it. Anyway, he's right, it wasn't a big deal until the media blew it out of proportion.

Didn't Mortenson also tell us that Vick wouldn't be indicted? Despite ESPN trumpeting him as a great reporter he's actually kind of a joke in media circles.

Chris Mortenson, with all of his NFL connections, is not a legal expert. That's not a good example.

It's an excellent example, him being indicted or not is simply a matter of fact, he just got bad information and ran with it.

Eli Manning being out for weeks after the first game is another Mort gem from just this year. He's the Steve Phillips or Merril Hoge of reporting.

Injury reports are another bad example. You should know that with your FO. Teams lie about injuries all the time to 'sources'.

this had NOTHING TO DUE WITH THE JETS.... The NFL was looking for this on their own after warning them not to do it...Mangini didn't say jack shit...

but it's ok... you love rooting for proven cheaters... I'm sure the next team you latch on to won't have to shake the tainted title...now run along troll

Only one team did it and was caught after the league memo came out.

Maybe some of the dense cheaters fans dont get the significance of prior written notice, but if you are going to take punitive measures and single out a particular offender, it is a wise thing to circulate a prior written warning, to put everyone on notice that said cheating wouldnt be tolerated anymore.

Of course, belicheat, being the sociopath he is, completely disregarded that and was nailed. Fuck him.

    Whats exelcent?
So what you are saying it that any past violations of league rules are immaterial? OK.

Additionally, you are acknowledging that this was merely a technical violation of rules and not "cheating" ie rules violations intended to create an unfair advantage? The rules were not changed. The commissioner's memo is not sufficient to make an actual rule change. This requires an owner's vote. The only thing that changed was the penalty, not the underlying importance of the charge.

It's funny reading these threads now...

I remember when this first occured, everyone was crowing about how Mangini "caught" Bill, and everyone was proud of how they "busted" the Patriots...

Now that the rematch is coming, the team and the fans are all saying "I don't know anything about it, it wasn't us, it was the NFL, the Jets had nothing to do with it."

The sweet smell of fear and denial....

Hey, the Jets blew the whistle. It's OK. There's nothing wrong with it, and denying it now changes absolutely NOTHING about this weekend, or anything else.

The fact is, it was Jets security that started the whole fiasco when they wanted to confiscate the tape. THEN the NFL officials stepped in, and THEN the Police.

But the Jets initiated the whole thing, Mangini or not...although I think it is kind of foolish to say "Mangini had no idea and had nothing to do with it"....that seems really ridiculous, but then it really doesn't matter.

The fact is that the Media acts like cheating is fine with the NFL. Why don't they ask Billishit why he did it? Why don't they ask him why did he get warnings last year but still did it in the first game? But, no, they ask if he is going to get them back for telling the truth about the cheaters. It's a joke...
