i haven't been impressed by him but its too early to make final judgment on him. I dont think this team is going anywhere any time soon especially with that empire up in New England and front office's reliance on either New England rejects or other lesser "character' guys.
A lot of the passionto get Clemens in had to do with a lot of irrational passion to get Pennington out of the starting job. Like you said, people would be praising Ryan Leaf's rocket arm if he had been the guy on the bench instead of Clemens.
most quarterbacks struggle in the first year though...hes shown signs of being a real good QB..with some work this off season and maybe a NEW OC...he can get play calls that will work to his strengths. Basically, the second year will be key to see his decision making..so im ok with these problems.
They can, as this team is a long way away from contending.... Bringing a different young QB into this offense isn't going to yield results too much better than what you're seeing.... It's very difficult to progress as a QB when you're constantly under pressure, running one of the most predictable offenses in the NFL, barely supported by your running game, and consistently missing one of your top 2 targets due to injury.... That is not to make excuses for Clemens, but it is to say that drafting a QB really wouldn't help our cause much right now.... We need to get the rest of the team squared away, and give Clemens the end of this season and at least some of next to show something.... If he doesn't, a trade or a 1st round QB would make a lot of sense...
Well said, Mangini and Tannenbaum are going to have to sit down and make some tough decisions. I'd hate to use a 1st rounder on a QB given the multitude of holes that the Jets have. I'd love if Clemens was the answer but you can't sit on your hands if you think he isn't. Ideally, drafting a QB will be irrelevant come draft day
I would much prefer Bernard Berrian from Chicago who I believe is a UFA this offseason. Exactly what we need, someone to stretch the field.
