The cut talks stem from the fact that he has mentioned in several articles that he still sees himself as a starter and rightfully so, he is not as bad as some of you make him out to be. He will not accept being a backup, nor will be take a pay cut yet again. So whats left, trade or cut, hopefully the former for Jets fans.

You want to pay your back up QB 4.8Million next year? Chad will refuse to renegiotate and force us to cut him. We trade him for a low pick to some team that doesn't want him to hit FA.

Yes, this is the reality check, isn't it? Probably the worst-case scenario but yeah, I see your point. If Chad stands firm all bets are off the table on him.

No, I don't want to pay him. However, if there are zero trade options, I wouldn't sacrifice cap money just to dump him.

I seriously doubt we would find zero suitors though. As I said earlier, there are many teams out there looking for a QB.

So you would be willing to pay Chad 4.8 Million next year to carry a clip board because that's the leverage he has. Essentially any team that wants him is trading for him to keep him from signing as an FA with another team.

If I was an NFL GM, and I thought Chad was a legit starting NFL QB not a hold the fort guy, I would be willing to take my chances in FA and overpay him rather than trade a first day pick for him. Even if I trade for him to start I'm going to have to pay him and make him happy if I'm making him the leader of my team. Why give up the pick?

    It's spelled "their" genius.

And wtf does that even mean? I "bought Chad's jersey" so I miscalculate his worth? Do you enjoy baiting people? Seriously, it's not going to work on me, you're not going to make me get myself banned, no matter how hard you try.

FYI, I've never bought Chad's jersey, which is inconsequential, but relevant to your stupid comment.

Besides that, I don't overrate Chad's ability. He's at best a third round value, at worst, a fifth. If you think differently, well, then you'd just be Champ.

You are like TGG's own personal supply of Ex-lax. Now why don't you go crawl back under your rock and pretend you're taking another trip to the Riviera, or wherever it is you claim to go when the Jets win.

Actually I think the word is out there how to defend CP so I really wonder if anybody wants a QB who no longer can make what they say are "all" the NFL throws so I visualize him like Win said of either not taking a pay cut & being axed or by some miracle he does accede to huge a reduction in pay & because he is stilled well liked by many fans he is kept around as a backup. Saying that however I do not see that happening as I think CP still believes he can be a starter/winning games in the league

Who is talking a first day pick? There's no way Chad garners at least a second-round pick. I think even a third is pushing it a lot.

He's worth a 5th rounder to the teams I mentioned earlier.

Because it makes better sense for Us to hold on to him.

    You do remember 1999 don't you ?

True, I never will forget, but I do not see how we can carry Chad as a backup. I do not think he will take kindly to being in this role. Tui can be a credible backup an we could pick up a decent 3rd string QB in the latter rounds of the draft.

Maybe by some sort of luck Peterson will resign and the Hunts will make Herm the GM. That way we trade him for two first round picks.

We had a team that was capable of winning a SB in 1999. It's not happening in 2008 so Chad is outta here!

I agree. The Vikes would be great for him. They could make a SB run in the NFC next year.

    Every Jet fan's worst nightmare:

We let him go for peanuts. Then, a year from January, we see Chad Pennington dressed in purple and holding up the Vince Lombardi trophy.

Edit: Actually, if it means them beating the crap out of the Patriots, I'd be rooting for Chad!

I think every Jet fan's worst nightmare would be if it were with the Dolphins.

You should be lashed for even stating it could be a possibility.
