This, I believe is the first ever win by a player. Maybe the system does work. DENVER (AP) -- Broncos running back Travis Henry won his appeal of a one-year suspension over a failed drug test. "We are pleased with this outcome and happy that Travis has been absolved of any wrongdoing with respect to this matter," the team said in a statement Tuesday. The NFL told Henry in September he had failed a test for marijuana. He disputed the results and sued the NFL to avoid a suspension. He contended the league violated its substance abuse policy by not allowing an expert of Henry's choosing to be present for the testing http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/football/nfl/12/04/bc.fbn.broncos.henry.ap/index.html
Maybe you were just being sarcastic or maybe you really are that dumb. I am well aware of the rules, but the rules are bullshit. If a guy's drug use becomes a big problem his job performance will suffer and things will take care of themselves.
no, I think you really are that dumb. Why would you choose this thread to talk about how people shouldn't be punished for using illegal substances? I forgot. You're a Patriots fan.
Perhaps because this is a thread about a person being potentially punished for using an illegal substance. I know it makes no sense. I wasn't literally trying to say "hmm these are the rules, he hypothetically broke them. don't punish him anyways." Obviously the NFL has to carry out its rules but that doesn't justify stupid policies. I suppose if the NFL also banned eating at Burger King and Travis Henry was caught at a Burger King drive through it would make sense to suspend him because those are the rules. There's a difference between questioning a specific decision to suspend someone and questioning the principle behind suspending the player.
there have been hundreds of threads about this in the past. To all of a sudden start whining about how people shouldn't get punished for using illegal substances is...childish.
Well I saw it and just wrote what I thought about it. I think it basically every time I hear about someone in the NFL being suspended for substance abuse, and this time I wrote it. I don't get how it's childish to question specific NFL policies in a thread that relates to a specific NFL policy.
And if he uses performance enhancing drugs, he should get a new contract, because he's doing better, right? Great logic.
No that is entirely different because then it relates to cheating. There is a clear difference between performance enhancing drugs and drugs that are either neutral if not negative in terms of effecting performance. The entire discussion is about illicit non-peds so that is completely unrelated.
Look man, I smoke pot and know how much less it affects performance on the job in many cases. I also know that it is illegal and, no matter what the effect the performance of my job it causes, it is an indicator that I operate outside the law at times and would be an alarm indicator to my employer. It's not the affect the substance has, it's the legality. And it's not just the NFL, it's the entire country. It's not abuse of the drug, it's the usage. There are ABUSE programs in place for alcohol, and it is entirely legal, and in many cases those who attend the abuse programs are not technically abusers.
an argument would be that marijuana can be used as a pain reliever in a league full of pain and injuries...but there are plenty more the nfl is a professional organization...and the rules are made to make these guys be as professional as possible...this is not a rap label every oakland raider would be in snoop dogg's next video if the rule was changed the players are role models (even if they dont want to be) for kids everywhere... the nba/nfl are trying to prevent fans from losing interest, bc nobody wants to watch a bunch of thugs...the nba took the next step to a dress code as for henry, this is not his 1st time...or 2nd time...this is his 3rd time breaking the rule and that is why it would have been so harsh a first time offender does not recieve the same punishment...
