I like when him and TJ were in the backfield at the same time. Anything we can do to give the opposing defense something extra to think about is a good thing.

I Dunno about a starter but what a 1-2 punch he'll be with Tommy Jones. Mangini gotta use Leon more like he did against Miami.

I like that idea. Out of the pro set. We use 4-5 WRs so why not have two RBs in. With all these F'n gadgit plays its amazing that it hasn't been used.
As an every down back , no way. Someone like Leon needs to fill his lungs every other play.

I think he's effective enough that he deserves regular touches, but at the same time I don't think he'll excel getting 30 touches a game. He should have a tag partner and Jones is perfect for that.

Agreed...i've been looking for this all year...Leon is way to explosive to have on the bench and he causes match-up problems.

The halfback fly pattern is in disrepute at the moment in the NFL. It used to be a staple with people like Marcus Allen and James Brooks taking a linebacker deep with them a couple of times a game, often as a decoy.

I'd love to see the Jets use TJ and Leon in the same backfield with TJ staying in to block and Leon going long a couple of times a game. That'd stop the 8 in the box thing pretty quick.

If our offensive line gets better in the off-season then TJ and Leon will get much better, too.

They have lacked the supporting cast all year, but fortunately have not been given one (this year).

I think he needs ten touches a game, whether they be receptions or carries. Our offense is too lacking in playmakers otherwise for us to waste this guy. Unfortunately, Brian seems to have inherited his father's taste for bland, conservative offense.

Washington is a versatile back very much in the mold of Brian Westbrook. I think he's durable enough for 20-30 touches per game provided that his number of rushing carries does not exceed 15 or so per game. Washington has very good hands and, like Westbrook, is lethal in space. Like Westbrook, the chances of him making big home run plays increase greatly in relation to his number of touches. Westbrook is a focal point of the Eagles offense despite his injury prone history. The Eagles to run a West-coast style offense but I'm a believer of configuring and running offensive and defensive pacakages that are best suited to your existing personnel.

As far as Leon Starting at Tail back, that would lead IKNOW to a lot of ankle injuries for this kid as well as durability issues down the road robbing this guy of his god given talents. The play that has gone a way the last couple of years is the running back coming out of the back field to go on a route. We still run a very vanilla offense when it comes to the backs. If there lined up behind the line 90% of the time it’s a run the other 10% is a direct snap or a delayed hand off! Curtis found a lot of success with those kinds of plays.

I think he definitely could be, but I don't see it happening any time soon. And especially since he returns kicks and punts, getting 20+ carries a game plus all the returning may take it's toll on him. I'd like to see him used more like yesterday, 10-15 carries (not 2-3 like before that game) and returns.

the jets really have to throw him the ball more. get him out in space and let him work. he will YAC opposing defenses to death coming out of the backfield.

The problem with talking about him as a starter is that it'd be senseless to put him in the role of a workhorse back, where your going to be running him into the box 20+ times a game. I don't see him in that role, but I think its already apparent that hes a guy you want to get the ball to as often as you can in other ways.

Personally I think the way hes being used now is pretty good. Hes dynamite on kickoffs, get him involved on some screens and pass plays, give him some handoffs to keep the defense honest. But I think its crucial to have somebody like Thomas Jones around to play the role of the conventional workhorse back. Which of the two you want to call 'starter' isn't really important.
