I couldn't watch the game (trust me, I had a good reason), and I see we beat Pittsburgh, we had 7 sacks, we ran the ball well, and we stopped the run. Basically, everything we did horribly on defense in the first half we dominated. What gives? Clemens: 14-31, 162, 1 TD, 1 INT, 3 sacks. Not a great game statistically by any stretch, but how did he look? Jones with 30 carries, 117 yards and a 26 yard run. Did the line improve that much or what?
Steelers did not come to play...made huge penalties at critical times. There are no excuses...the Jets were just the more physical team today.
Our D played a full game plus overtime and pressured Ben the whole time. We practically shut down their running game and got our run game going pretty well with TJ. Clemens made the plays when it counted and Leon sealed the win in OT with a nice punt return. Great game.
Much had to do with pressure on the QB...it seemed we flushed Ben out of the pocket alot today and had good coverage schemes. As far as the O-line goes, we had very good run blocking. KC seemed to try to force some passes in, but the Jets also tried to stretch the field. not alot of dink and dunk. the opening flea flicker to Coles really set the Dbs back. 7 sacks and 2 turnovers really helped on d.
We easily destroyed the Steelers. Not much else to say. Oh yeah, the defense played very well and a lot more aggressive. KC looked very poised in the final drive of regulation leading us to the tying field goal.
Somebodies mugged the entire team.......... Nugent's 38-yard FG leads Jets to stunning 19-16 overtime win over Steelers Preview - Box Score - Recap By DENNIS WASZAK Jr., AP Sports Writer November 18, 2007 AP - Nov 18, 6:07 pm EST EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- The New York Jets silenced the Terrible Towels and stunningly left the field winners for the first time in almost two months. With thousands of Pittsburgh fans in Giants Stadium waving their yellow Steelers towels, Mike Nugent kicked a 38-yard field goal 5:03 into overtime to give the Jets an unlikely 19-16 victory Sunday. The winning kick broke a six-game losing streak for the Jets (2-8), who stormed the field after the victory and celebrated in a huge circle around Nugent. Thomas Jones had 117 yards on 30 carries, becoming the first running back in 35 games to reach 100 yards against the top-ranked Steelers defense. Leon Washington set up the win by returning a punt 26 yards to the Steelers 26. After three runs by Jones for 6 yards, and before a huge contingent of Steelers fans making the trip from Pittsburgh, Nugent lined up and booted the kick that sent his teammates into a frenzy. It was the Jets' first win since beating Miami in Week 3. New York did it by unexpectedly being able to run against the Steelers (7-3) almost at will, and sacking Ben Roethlisberger a season-high seven times. The Jets, whose pass rush has been criticized all season, had just nine sacks entering the game.

An OT win is not "easily destroying the Steelers" Come on now..you guys played well but it wasn't a rout
For the record, Mangini did essentially the same thing as Herm when in position for the game winning FG... The difference, of course, was that Leon's return put us closer for the try, and Nugent is not Doug Brien....
Clemens is still showing the signs of being a rookie: staring down WRs, throwing into coverage, hanging on to the ball too long, not willing to throw the ball away when there's nothing there. I still like the energy and the play-making ability he brings to the table though. His scramble to bring Nugent into FG range to send the game into OT was key. Jones looked excellent, especially when the line actually decides to block for him. It just amazes me what a great run game we could have if they would just block consistently. Defense was a beast today. Where the hell did they come from? Highlight plays: - Flea-flicker pass to Coles for 50+ yards in their opening drive that set the Jets up for their only TD of the game. - Rhodes' ridiculous one-handed, mid-air INT off Roethlisberger. - The 7 sacks the Jets D managed to rack in. - Leon Washington, who was ineffective most of the game due to Pitts kicking away from him, returns a punt 30+ yards to set up the game-winning FG in OT.
Well, Mr. Jetfanmack, it was far and away the best game of the year by the Jets - hands down. Defensively they really mixed things up with Ellis playing linebacker sometimes. DRob played like he shot up with speed before the game. It was a complete 180 degree reversal from what we have witnessed all year. It was a different team. Offensively, we were really taking it to them as well. Just hard play. Our running backs did a great job. Clemens looked solid - good decision makinig. He only through one pass he shouldn't have and that was the one that was picked off. Clemens has an arm though and he really looks like he will be able to play into the future for us. The flea flicker to Coles the second play of the game was like the genius we saw last year. It was a very physical game. Both teams played hard. Little Leon, in overtime, made a play. It was the only time during the game they gave him a legitimate chance to return something all day (a punt no less), and he made the most of it. I think Leon deserves to go to Hawaii. This is the type of game that really can ignite a team, It was a great win to build off of. We beat a damn good team today - we earned all of it. I also, am extremely thankful that I did not come to the site and read any threads of how our win hurts our chances for Darren McFadden. That is not what football is all about. It is all about playing for the "now". Next year, is next year. Plus, it is alot easier to get our Offensive line stronger than it is to pick up a superstar running back and vault yourself to stardom overnight. If McFadden is our destiny than so be it; if not, that's OK, too. We lost a lot of close games this year because our Defense and or Offense did not play well when they had to. This is the first week all year where I could see that, clear, large strides forward were made. Let's worry about the off-season when it comes, but for now, let's play football.
Not necessarily true, while Leon got closer to with his punt return both teams started their last three plays from the 26. In the Brien game Chad took a knee on third down losing a yard after Martin/Jordan got three yards on the first three downs. Today, the Jets rushed (forward) three straight times to gain 6 yards after they started on the 26. (If the Jet had lost any yardage on third down it is conceivable that Nugents kick would have hit the cross bar as it wasn't that strong a boot.)
