Everyone throws around these figures like it is monoply money but to the average Joe here's what it means:

If you earn $75,000 per year you will earn this in 240 years

If you were paid $1 per minute for the next 30 years you would have $15,678,000

If Abe wanted to use a $100 bill for toilet paper 2x per day he would have to go out to the 7-E for more in 246 years

Bottom line (pun intended) for the Jets at this point in time, in a rebuild mode, is too rich for spending on someone who had their hearts set elsewhere and after a lengthy holdout this year (and the Jets have 100% attendance in the offseason program that started a few days ago) he would be free to be a bird next year.

Or one low hit and the $18mm is lost. Signing bonuses have to be footed by someone, and Woody did not buy the team to become a philanthropist...

I wish him luck. Now he needs to prove that he is worth every penny of it to all of his new teammates and the fans who foot the bill.

If he bought three tampons per day for his ailments, and three boxes of 'Be a Bitch' Talcum powder, he would run out of money in 2080.

    Good riddance.

I have no problem with Abe, and wish him luck in Atlanta. The money is just part of the business side of things, and he would not be getting it if the demand was not so high. He was never a true malcontent no matter how the trade business unfolded.

Why is this in the Jets forum?
Last I heard John Abraham was an Atlanta Falcon.

Agreed, the Jets are not without blame in the seasons of his discontent

The 1 week rule is in effect, very similar to the tuck rule, made it up as I went along:beer:

I dont under stand why he was so upset about the tag. he got 7+ million last year he was going to get 8.4 million this year. That almost 16 million in pocket and he'll be an UFA again next year with a 20% pay raise if the Jets wanted to tag him yet again.

So how is this different from the deal he got in Atl

He's a good player and got paid as such. "Don't hate the player, hate the game" If any of us could make the most me could at our perspective careers we would. Unfortunately none of us were born with the physical gifts to play at that level or we'd be paying someone to type our posts for us.

...18 m for a strictly one dimensional player. I mean honestly, for what he was paid, couldn't he at least try to make a few tackles downfield. I hate to say this, but that homo in Miami is a much more complete DE than Abe will ever be...

Love your insight, just chock full of football knowledge. You make that GM of Atlanta, who won a Super Bowl with his moves as GM of Tampa Bay look like a fool. Pat yourself on the back, genius... Now get on to some other ex-Jet who has ruined your life.

If you were a monster of a pass rusher and a top defensive end in football you'd earn this money too. The whole.. "Wah; I work hard, and they don't deserve what they get," thing is starting to get old. Except the fact that they make tons of money you'll never see and move on.

He wanted a long term deal with guaranteed money because he knows that he is going to get injured again. He's as fragile as Wladamir Klitscho's chin.

Isnt the 2 year total of almost 16 million (2005 tag of 7.6 and this years 8.3) guaranteed. Plus hes not locked into a long term deal hes still has options for 2007. now hes atlanta property and has to stay there and play for 1- 2 million for the next 5 years
