D'Brick or Mario. No facts, just wisdom.

First, don't bitch about my avatar I'll be changing it soon. The Jets are commited to Chad for the 2006 season, with Ramsey in reserve (although Ramsey will start). The Jets would love NOT to draft a QB right now. If you were Mangini, would you use your 4th pick for a "bench warming insurance policy" against Chad's tendons, or use it for a "garuanteed" Super Mario or D'brick? How much would is SUCK mu avatars ass if we passed on Mario and D'Brick in favor of a QB, and then Chad regains his form and tears up the league? We'd be called SanDiego East.

Just based on the HUGE long term money we have tied up in Chad, the Jets MUST give him one season to regain his form without looking over his surgically repaired shoulder. And since Chad is the financial future of the Jets, I really think we have no choice but to bring in D'Brick to give Chad every possible opportunity to succeed. If D'Brick is gone, we bring in Mario.

    It's so obvious.

Are there any good QB's coming out in 2007? This could play a role in the Jet's decision as well.

but in competition with that is the "new regime theory" and the new regime theory states you begin your regime by picking a QB.

Oh really? Did Belicheck do that when he got to NE? Remember Mangini and Tanny are Beli and Parcells disciples.

There is no theory it's who you feel will help impact your team the most. If you feel that D'Brick is the best guy at 4 to keep your quarterback from getting killed as well as opening up holes for your run game then go and draft him.

But if you think that Mario Williams is just to much of a beast to pass up on and he will terrorize other teams quarterbacks maybe you draft him. I still like D'Brick though to protect our quarterback.

no, but Parcells did it in 1993 with Bledsoe.

Yes, but Mangini inherited a $60 million dollar surgically repaired shoulder. If we draft and pay Leinhart his $30 to $40 mil, on top of Chads, we will have 50% of our offensive cap space tied up on QB's for the next 5-6 years. I believe our "only fiscal option" is for Chad to regain his form, and the Jets will do everything possible to make that happen in 2006. D'Brick will block. Ramsey will start. Chad will take over in September. And if the Jets bring in a TE, he will be known for his line blocking ability over anything else. CM will start due to his excellent blitz pick up ability. West Coast 3 step drops will be our bread and butter. Oh, and Ramsey will suck.

I love Chad Pennington. I think when HEALTHY he is one of the best QBs in the game. The problem is he has gotten injured the last 3 years. Even IF he came back in top form what are the odds of him making it through a full NFL season. I think you still take Leinart and see where you are a year from now. If Chad regains his form and stays healthy you can always trade Leinart for a 1st rounder next year. If Chad doesn't manage to thrive you cut him and Leinart is the starter in 2007. In that situation Leinhart will have the offensive system down and the O-line will be stronger by then too. Otherwise you wind up drafting a guy who immediately needs to learn on the job(unless of course Ramsey all of a sudden lives up to his first round pedigree!) I even used to think that we could always draft Quinn next year..but there is no gaurantee of getting him. I just think if you have the oppurtunity to get the best QB in the draft without giving up too much you have to pull the trigger. Having too many potential starting QBs is a good problem to have!

We're not drafting a qB... at least I hope to hell we aren't... it would be a major waste to lose another first round pick to just move up two spots... I really hope they don't do that.

We already have 3 qbs on the team as of right now -- what's the point in adding another? I think we're set for 2006.

but Chad's restructure turned it into basically a one year deal, so that cap space argument is not quite right. Personally I'd rather go into the season with Ramsey, Chad and Bolly, but I don't think we HAVE to or that we necessarily WILL. I think the chances of drafting Cutler are about 1 in 3.

Figured I'd chuck this into an existing thread so I don't piss all of you old dudes off. Mario Williams Pro day.

Williams: I gave it all I had

(Defensive end Mario Williams is considered one of the top prospects in the 2006 NFL Draft. As a junior at North Carolina State, Williams helped lead the Wolfpack to a 7-5 record and a shutout bowl victory over South Florida. Williams' 14½ sacks and 24 tackles for loss propelled N.C. State to a No. 8 national ranking in total defense. NFL.com brings you updates from Williams as he approaches the draft.)

(March 23, 2006) -- Our Pro Day on Wednesday started off late, like at 1:30 in the afternoon. I thought we would start sooner but it was kind of late. I had already eaten so I went out there on a full stomach. We didn't practice at the stadium, which was weird. We were taken to a soccer complex about one mile from campus and three or four miles from the stadium. They had some kind of AstroTurf that we had never played on before. There were about 17 of us from N.C. State working out and one guy from another school I can't think of.

Mario Williams (No. 9) said he was really impressed by how teammate Manny Lawson did his drills.
There were so many scouts and coaches there that I couldn't count. I'd say about 80 percent of the people there were from the top five teams picking in the draft. I remember seeing the Texans, the Saints and the guys from New York, but I don't remember the Titans being there. I had seen some of these guys at the Combine already.

I wasn't nervous at all but I was a bit under the weather with a cold. I had a head cold and some phlegm in my lungs, but I wanted to do the drills because I didn't want any negative publicity. I told the Saints I was a little sick and my agent talked to some other people, so they understood why I was so exhausted by the end of the last drill. I had never felt so tired in my life.

We started off by doing bag drills. They set up five and we had to go to them one by one and hit them. Then we did some shuffle drills with the bags, shuffling with two feet side to side. Then ran up and back, side to side and then had to slap the ground on the coach's command. I was pretty tired by then, but then the guy from Kansas City ran this drill that was crazy. He is known for making players exhausted with it. He takes you to the brink before stopping. He puts his hands on you and you have to slap them away, and we had to do this for a while until we almost dropped. And he knew when it was time to stop, but not before getting a good workout in.

There were six of us linemen who were going through these drills. But by the time I got to the end of one set and sprinted back, it was time to do it again. We did everything four times. You can imagine how tired I was after it.

I didn't run any of the sprints or shuttles or anything like that. I stood on all my numbers from the Combine. They were really good and I didn't want to ruin them by running while sick. I was debating whether or not to do the field drills due to my cold, but after talking to my agent I wanted to do them because, like I said before, I didn't want any negative publicity.

I was too tired to see the reactions from anyone there about how I did. But then once everything was done, they took the linebackers back to the stadium and just about every coach went with them. So that was it; it was over. There weren't any question and answer sessions or one-on-ones.

Now I plan on working on football drills and improving my cardio. I don't have anything big on my plate right now, but the guys at The Best Damn Sports Show Period might fly me out to Los Angeles to tape a show next week. In all, I do feel good now that the two big pre-draft hurdles are done.

How many times are we going to say this, Pennington is done, New England's coaching staff didn't think he was any good before the injury. There are no guarantees and if you think there are then you have little football knowledge.

How obvious does it have to be to see that the Jets are taking Leinart

in all likely hood we will see the jets draft a Qb and get rid of Bollinger. Von Oelhoffen was signed to play, not to sit the bench and watch Mario Williams play, theres no way you draft mario and rotate him in either. If Runyan gets signed, then picking Ferguson is also useless because then Adrian Jones is sitting there with nothing to do.......odds are Cutler and Leinart will be a jet.....
