I think we need Justin back there if he can recover and get it back, Leon is too valuable as a running back to risk using as a returner. Maybe put him on punts. I find that there's a stigma attached to return guys...
really? what exactly makes him so valuable as a RB? He is a 3rd down back, nothing more nothing less.
I'm not against giving up Justin Miller if we get good return on him but otherwise, this team is in no position to give up talented players. Miller is still learning and cornerback is one of the hardest positions to adapt to in the NFL. I certainly wouldn't give up on him....we don't have that luxury anyways. I'd prefer to see how he performs in Dyson's spot....that has the making of a good secondary with Revis on the other side.
Helllllllllll no do we trade leon. The kid is lightning and is just developing, probably this team's best playmaker.
Early this season I was all for admitting Miller was a bust and the Jets should get rid of him b/c Leon was as good, if not better as a returner. However, with with Dyson's disappointing play and your other points above, I now agree with you.
You cant trade Leon, he is more than a return man. He is our change of pace back as well. Once the Jets put a O-line together to help Brick and Mangold he'll be a hell of slash back. You cant trade away a pro-bowler as well. He's going this year as the ST guy opposite Hester for the AFC
No because next season he (Miller) is only one injury to Leon away from being back to the man back there.
As much as I think Miller is a bum off the field and a turd on the defensive side of the ball, we're not going to get squat for him on a trade that will add up to the value of the home-run potential having him and Leon back there on kickoffs provides. With Westhoff and these two, STs could become a regular source of points for the team and I don't think some late-round draft pick or a backup defensive player will match that value. BTW, Miller still has a suspension coming to him from the intern-slapping incident unless it's been shuffled under a political rug. That could put a snag in any trade plans.
you guys do realize Miller is still only 22 or 23? And that CB is one of the hardest positions to learn and adapt to? Miller is an incredible athlete and can turn it around and develop into a solid CB
i thought miller was expendable coming off of last season (in my mind) when his value was at its highest point...i even made a thread saying we should trade him during the offseason i would still trade him, but his value has taken a huge hit... he could make an interesting addition to a larger deal in the offseason... vilma will be at the center of trade rumors...with many possible landing spots denver needs a linebacker and has never had a kickreturner...
Look, it's not like Miller didn't have a coach for the first 20 years of his life. Everyone was excited about his "first round talent." However, it's two season and three training camps later and don't think he is even close to Revis. That being said, no harm in keeping him. I have zero expectations for him going forward, so everything is gravy.
I can't see how being loaded on KR could ever hurt us. The main reason I was upset with Miller's injury was because of the implications of opposing teams not wanting to kick to EITHER of them. He could have traded duty with B. Smith, and although Miller was having a good camp, it was going to take an awful lot to convince me of his CB abilities. I wasn't read to buy in based on TC alone. As to the CB position being tough to learn, I'll concede that. I think certain things can be taught, learned, and improved upon. However, other things can't. Like instinct. I'm not so sure he had the natural tools there, but I was willing to give him another year/chance to impress me. Teams were throwing in his direction with good reason. Anyway, now that he injured his hamstring so badly, he may not come back the same in the first place. It may always be a weak spot for him, and if his speed is greatly affected, it's kind of a useless debate.
Keep both, no brainer. Yes Miller is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he does have plenty of talent, namely, speed, a valuable commodity. Seriously, I think the kid is lacking the normal number of brain cells, but so do many NFL players. Hre does play as hard as he can, and leaves it all out there on the field. I fault Mangini, in part, for not simplifying his schemes to adapt to the talent he has.... dumb down the coverage schemes a little. Even Coleman and Smith, not to mention this new kid, whathisname, emmons or whatever, they have all made bad coverage scheme mistakes. I've been saying all along that Vilma was better suited as an OLB in the 3-4.... but even though he was clearly struggling, Mangini failed to adapt. Mangini.... I've lost some faith in him as a HC. He talks plenty about being versatile, but so far it's been just talk, no action. Don't even get me started on why they didn't draft any O linemen this year...
I disagree, I think that without Thomas Jones on this team, Leon may have taken the starting role by now. He is a quick and shifty guy, and if he can learn to run a little harder, he could be more than that. By the way, what does 3rd down back mean? I mean, he gets the ball on more than just 3rd down. And if 3rd down back meant that he'd only get it on 3rd down, then wouldn't our play calling be pretty predictable when he came in the game considering that it would be on third down running situations?
You want to trade a second year player? How often does that happen? Also, he was drafted in the 4th, has is play honestly warranted him to be dealt for a 3rd?
