I didn't really notice the "rocket arm" that he supposedly has (although it is refreshing to watch a QB who can make NFL throws), and he was a bit off of the timing with some of his recievers... BUT, Kellen did plenty to win this game for us if: a.) The reviecers didn't slather their hands in butter prior to the contest and/or b.) The defense would grow a set and learn to stop the run. (Or Mangini would realize we aren't a 3-4 squad) Overall tho, I was very impressed w Kellen. He was very poised - made some good decisions on when to throw the ball away or take a sack. I was extremely impressed with his mobility... it was legit... nice movement within the pocket that bought time for the recievers to get open, and then a couple of very good scrambles on top of that. He also showed his ability to take the big hit and keep on ticking... Having Coles in this game would have helped him tremendously as well... At least it was an entertaining game to watch... Now someone please tell Mangini/Schott that it's not a crime to run Thomas Jones a little more...
It’s just another Monday and still no wins to speak of! I agree with most of what you wrote I don’t think Coles would have made any difference at all. The receivers definitely had the dropsy’s and this put us in tight situations. I don’t know if you are being sarcastic when you say you didn’t notice the rocket balls Kellen was throwing; if you record it then look back on it and compare to a Pennington pass (Night & Day). There were at least 4 throws that if Pennington were the quarter back we would be talking about the pick that went the other way! When you fix one glaring problem (Quarter back) its opens up another one (Defense), we all knew was trash but to the extent of 196 on the ground, people deserve to loose their jobs!
The recievers was the one's that were off. KC, played fine, If we had him in the beginning of the season, we would atleast be at 500
Sorry, but that is simply untrue. I think it is very obvious that the QB position has been the least of the Jets problems. And that has been made apparent by watching last nights game. These games are lost in the trenches. KC played fine, but to be honest, there was not a huge difference between KC and Chads game play. Only Chad was more accurate and KC had a bit stronger throws and faster delivory. But our defense lost this game for us once again, and our oline is terrible at running the ball and protecting the QB. That is why we lose games. Having KC in there from day one would do nothing. In fact it might have crushed the spirit of a possible jets future franchise QB.
I thought it was a bad move to let a quarterback making his second NFL start drop back over 50 times in a game, but when you're down by as much as we were going into the second half, you really don't have a choice. What's that? We were leading? Hmmm... Maybe the Jets are in full-on rebuilding mode. Maybe they don't care about winning any more games (having missed the playoffs) and just want Kellen to have as much film as possible to review going into the bye week. Sounds terrible, I know, but maybe going into 2008 with a quarterback who threw 400 balls the previous season and Darren McFadden in the backfield is the right way to go. "Triage" isn't the right word, but it's the first word that comes to mind.
No ducks today Thats pretty sad fakecrs, you really did not see any difference in KC and Chad. I dont know what game you were watching. KC looked so much better than Chad and its only his 2nd start. Chad has been in the NFL for 8 years. I think it like 70 possesions this year Chad has 3 touchdowns. In the two games KC has played, the receivers had let him down. In the games Chad played, he let the team down by throwing costly interceptions. Look what KC did when were down, guide us to a game tying FG. All the times Chad has the opportunity to either tie or take the lead he has failed. I love how people compare Chad to KC when Chad has so many more years under his belt. Please no comparison, KC is possibly the future. Im not saying he is great by any means but he is better than Chad.
I am not impressed. Bring back Chad. Schot Jr has to go. Chad could have made any of the passes thrown, it is the crappy offensive system, not the QB. IMO
Chad more accurate? Chad who? Clemens hit his receivers in stride and several of them couldn't come up with the big catch. Chad was accurate when throwing to the other team's DB's, I'll give you that. Clemens has also demonstrated an ability to read opposing D's better, thread the ball over the middle with some velocity, like the Baker reception- Chad couldn't make that throw to Baker with such accuracy and you know it. Pocket presence? No comparison- Clemens knows when to unload the ball, when to flee the pocket, and when to just take the sack instead of throwing the ball into coverage. Don't let the stats fool you- he's a marked improvement over Pennington in more ways than one.
You HAVE to be fucking kidding me. Probably THE most retarded thing i've read here in a while. Some posters here are just unreal.
Explain that game by game. There's no way we'd be .500. The Offense didn't blow the second half leads we had against the Giants and Cincy and the offense didn't miss tackle son a 5 yard pass that turned into a 75 yard TD against Philly.
In the face of poor protection, I thought Clemens was surpisingly superb in every area but one: Clemens positives: Quicker release, and more zip on the short throws Excellent feel for pressure when he's sitting in the pocket Kept his eyes downfield while moving in the pocket, picked up 2nd and 3rd receivers Took off to run at exactly the right time almost ever time Willingness to take a hit to complete an attempt Clemens negatives: Failed to recognize where the blitz was coming from and took to many hits As he matures, he will learn to change or check out of a play and stay upright
Clemens looked very....average. As another poster on the board stated, we have had shitty qb play for so long that average play looks great. Anyway, its only his 2nd game so I guess we have to see more of him. Time will tell, which I believe is the Jet's motto. Or if its not it should be.
Which QB was better was not what my post was about for christe sake! THE QB POSITION HAS BEEN THE LEAST OF OUR PROBLEMS! How many times have we had a lead going into the 3rd this year!!!!???? No matter how much you say KC is better than Chad, or Chad is better than KC it makes NO Fing difference! We can not hold on to a lead no matter who the heck is throwing the football, and our offensive line gets BLOWN off the line of scrimage every freaking down! How many times do you people need to see our lines on both sides of the ball get manhandled to understand that our problems have much less to do with QB play and much more to do with the basic foundation neccesities like good blockers and gaurds, strong pass rushing, pass blocking, and and run blocking. Our offense with both chad and KC have jumped on teams early and have lead numerous times going into the late stages in the game only to have the lead dissapear in the 4th due to apponents RAMMING the ball down our throats on the ground. KC looked good yesterday for his second start for sure. But he is not the answer to this teams problems by a LONG shot. This team will continue to struggle with KC or Chad behind center so long as the defensive and offensive lines look like they have looked. Small, and out matched on every damn down.
I wasn't being sarcastic about the arm strength... I mean it was def better than Chad's, but not ROCKET ARM like some peoplpe have been saying... I'm happy with it tho At least it's NFL quality...
Is it possible for us to "cut" the O and D lines, save for one or two players? Just cut them all- maybe the NFL won't impose a salary cap hit because they too will recognize that our lines are just that bad.
Agreed that the defense was the reason we lost... BUT there was a def difference between Chad and Kellen - MOBILITY... and that led to some plays being made... Also, Kellen can hang on to the ball when he gets smashed...
The Diff between Kellen and Chad is like Night and Day. Kellen completed numerous short bullets when the redskins blitzed that would have been ran back the other way if Chad had tried to make those throws or Cotchery of Smith would have been laid out with a concussion like Coles was last week trying to pull down one of his ducks! The Redskins have one of the best Secondaries in the league and he held his own. The receivers dropped at least 100 yards in passes yesterday! If Chad would have played they would have jumped his routes all day! Clemens also made scrambles that there is no way Chad could have made! He would have been quivering in the backfield! At least Clemens got us to OT and gave us a Punchers chance of winning with a bad Jets Team! If the Wr's could catch we would have won!
Agreed totally... we have to remember the quality of the secondary and the creativity of the D cordinator we were playing... a rookie quarterback even keeping us in that games was an important step in Kellen's maturation process
DID WE WIN THE GAME??? NO! We have bigger problems then QB. But you can sit their and praise KC all you want, it does change the fact that our defense looked like a bunch of women out there and our Oline cant get even the slightest bit of push on any down! Hey but at least we have a QB with a stronger arm then Chads WHOOWHO!! Screw winning the game!! SO long as KC is our QB we are doing just fine! It does not matter who is throwing the ball if we can't stop the freaking run or create any push on offense! Ahh why do I even bother, some of you are so blinded by the QB position you forget what wins games. And most of the time it is NOT the QB. Games are won and lost in the trenches. But hey, if having KC as your starting QB gets you off well then good for you. Personally I could care less about QB play right now. Give me a LARGE solid oline that wins the line of scrimmage on every down, a defence that contains the run and creates problems for apposing offenses, a good RB like Curtis Martin and a stupid ass QB that hands off all day and I would be MUCH more happy then I am now with KC as our QB.
