So I was reading a thread on this board about a certain subject that got me thinking. Heres the question. Suppose the Jets were to trade Pennington and Coles to the Vikings. Bearing in mind the defense theyre sporting and the presence of Adrian Peterson, Agree or Disagree that the Vikings would be playing for a Superbowl way sooner than the Jets.
If they fix the pass defense, and Childress is the real deal, then they might have a shot at taking out the Cowboys, Packers, or anyone else who's decent enough to make it there in the NFC. But then again its chad in the playoffs...
Every time plays for a SB every year. Now if the VIkings had Coles and Chad, they still wouldnt be much better than they are now. And def not good enough to beat the top teams in the NFC.
Chad is not the missing link to a superbowl for anyone... Whether he's wearing green or purple, his arm is still pink...
I'll tell you one thing, you put Pennington and Coles on the Vikings and they make the playoffs while the Jets look like they are years away from the playoffs today.
Yes..you don't need a great QB when you have a great running game and a great defense. Adequate will get you the big game. Just look at Chicago last year and their QB was much worse then Pennington on his worse day.
I was gonna respond . It would be great to see how Chad would do on a team with a good defense and an offensive line with a running game. But then I remembered we have seen that already. We went to the playoffs and did well. Again I say Chad is just a part of the problem. I think that will be evident today against Washington . ( I hope I am proved wrong) Other teams have won Superbowls with Qbs that were adequate not great or even good.At least with the Qb change it will give me a reason to watch today. Havent been going out of my way to catch the games the last coupla weeks.
I agree. People here forget that Chad has gotten us closer more times than anyone else. But then again,a lot of people hopped on the Jet bandwagon and weren't here for the shit years of yesterday.
Chad now is not the same Chad a couple of years ago. The vikings w/o Chad and Coles are closer to a SB then us. Adding those two guys just improves them. Right now they have better lines then us, a much better RB, and have a better secondary, I give us an ede at maybe LB and WR thats it
I agree with the sentiment. However, the Jets better get something GOOD if they trade Coles away. Worst thing the Jets can do is take our new QBs best target away from him for nothing.
Why would they ever consider trading Coles? I would think a team like the Vikings would give up a 3rd or 4th round pick for Pennington. While we all hate him, when he has protection and a running game he's a much better choice then a lot of teams awful qb's.
Chad and Coles might get the Vikings to the playoffs but there's no way no how they go to the Super Bowl. To get to the Super Bowl as Chad you need one of two things to be true: 1. You have an absolute shut down defense that can handle being put back on the field time and time again with the game in doubt and still come through 95% of the time (e.g. 2000 Ravens or 1985 Bears.) 2. The NFL just sucks for a season and there are no teams that win more than 12 games and no really strong defenses. In either of those scenarios Chad might lead a team with good across the board offensive tools to a Super Bowl. As you watch a team over the decades it becomes really easy to separate the good players from the great ones. When Chad was in his prime, before the shoulder injuries, he was a good player not a great one.
Chad is done as anything more than a stop gap. The Packers and Bears are both teams that are very stout up front. Pennington is liable to be shut out 4 times in confrence against those two teams. The Vikes need a QB who can get the ball down the field in man coverage. You can put Chad with a very good running back a good D and good OL which he had before two shoulder surgeries and he still didn't get us into a SB, what makes you think this version on a less over all talented team can?
Winston, this truly the part that gets me. Why does an average QB in the grand scheme of Quarterbacks, have this many followers............ like battered wives, the fairly tales some of these guys believe about Chad and his oline/great D/Running game. It leaves me at a lost.
He was a good one, yes, but keep in mind it was his first year playing in the NFL. He still had time to possibly develop into a great one. Who knows, injuries ruined that possibility.
