Of coarse its to early to say for sure. But it is at least something to watch and hope for. Clemons could drastically change the complexion of our offense. Open it up down field and take pressure off the running game. Cant wait to see how it develops. And Harris is really going to help our run defense. Take some pressure off our DB's in the run D and allow them to play more pass first. Harris could become the player you can build a D around that Vilma never really was. If both of these things work out then it will be the start of a new era.
Not only Clemens and Harris but hopefully Bender too. If these three guys prove that they are fixtures for the future this team is not as far off as most posters believe. If they don't than we are farther away than most posters believe, especially Clemens.
I think we have a lot of young talent but some of it is very raw, given some time and bring some veterans that can actually earn their pay on the field and I can see many of the young jets becoming real studs
Out of curiosity why Bender? I think the more important piece is Brick, who has been doing an awesome job this year. I would say Mangold is more important too. Here are the guys that they have drafted that are vital to our success in future years. Brick LT Mangold C Harris ILB Revis CB Clemens QB (I'm not sold on him...yet anyway) Guys that were drafted by the previous regime that will be vital to our success Rhodes S Cotchery WR Nice role players Smith WR Washington RB Bender G Baker TE Hobson LB Positions we need to upgrade to finish the job of getting the most important pieces in place Pass Rushing DE/OLB Big Strong NT A second shutdown CB I seem to have gotten off track here. Anyway, that's how I see it.
I mentioned Bender because I am already counting Brick and Mangold as important pieces to the Jets future. If Bender comes in and can fill either the RT or LG position we would only need one more piece for the OL.
how is it that nobody in ny would ever misspell roger clemens, yet it seems that half the jet fans can't spell kellen clemens. in case you have not noticed, its the same friggin name! and i agree that every player drafted in rounds 1 and 2 over the past two seasons is crucial to our future success.
in fact, roger may even have a son named kellen given his penchant for naming his kids all "k" names.
They are important not because of when they were drafted but the positions they play. Although, it is ironic that the FO drafted those positions in the 1st two rounds. On offense obviously your OL and QB are the most important positions. On the OL the LT is the most important pass blocker for RH QBs and the Center is the "QB of the OL" who needs to make all the blocking calls. On defense your most important guys are the ones in the middle of the defense. The NT (or DTs), MLB (or ILBs) and the S. You need a stud at each of those locations. Currently we do not have a stud NT, but we may have a stud ILB in Harris and a stud S in Rhodes.
1. Terrell Suggs-please! 2. Draft/Pouha 3. Dyson did a great job when healthy last year. If we could get Suggs, we would be half way there. He would be the "game-changer" that we have been missing since Abe got run out of town. Together with Revis, they could take over on Sunday afternoon. I also think he would make Bryan Thomas instantly better. I think Pouha is really coming on as a NT...don't think he can handle it for full games, so we draft a platoon guy to go with him. We either get rid of D-slob, or move him to DE in a 3 man platoon w/Ellis and Coleman. Dyson was great last year. Don't forget that Justin Miller was showing improvement until his injury. If he ever lived up to his abilities, that would be a sick CB tandem. We really aren't very far away if the FO goes balls out for Suggs, which you will probably hear me bitching about until he is signed.
Whether or not D-Rob stays, his salary must go. If he doesn't want his salary to go, then he can follow it right out the door with it.
