I have been reading scouting reports from the draft06 and pre draft that said that arm strength was not one of KC's strengths. I suppose we'll see -- but he was not drafted with a rocket. (Of course better than the other guy).
I think his arm strength is good enough based on what I've seen. Arm strength is overrated however; CP's arm is so weak that we've learned to obsess over it in the past few years.
Contrary to what many believe, you are correct in pointing out that Clemens arm strength was not out of this world as a Duck. With that said, everything I have read and have personally seen has shown a definite improvement in that area since coming into the league. Nobody is going to mistake him for Favre, but I believe he has enough zip to make all of the necessary throws. The real thing to look for is whether or not he progresses quickly reading defenses. He showed some good signs of it in the preseason game and even the Baltimore game, but there were still problems and reads that should have went somewhere else. Unfortunately, all the practice in the world only prepares you so much, the real teacher is in game experience. We shall see....
His arm strength is just average if anything. It's received unnecessary hype simply because of Pennington's lack of. The deep bombs aren't important to me if he can zip the 15-20 yarders to the receivers
Just watch the Raven game, and see the strength and zip on the ball. Please, Kellen Clemens half asleep, could out throw Pennington.
As I said in the other post part of the reason for the low arm strength score was because he broke his ankle in his junior year and couldn't stride into the throw. He arm strength his above average and a little below cutlers. If you want to verify that, check Xbox stats on KC and you will see that they rank his arm stength very high.
His arm strength, as pointed out, is not extreme but adequate. He's not the next comming of Elway or Farve in arm strenght. He does posses more zip on the throw than Chad does for sure, and looks to have a nice quick release on the ball. The real test will be how he reads defenses and if he can make the correct throws.
LOLOL i cant believe your actually looking at X BOX to see someone's ability. lololol us jets fans boy o boy.
I knew I would get a flame about that remark but the fact is that xbox researches all their stats thoroughly. I work in the software industry and one of my friends works for the company. the fact is he has above average strength. His combine scores were low because the pins in his ankle affected him striding into long passes. When they looked at the tape before the injury the concluded that his arm strength was fine. In fact, if you watched the 2005 you would have noticed the KC moved up very fast on the board and their were a number of teams that wanted him. Jaws came out as did another of other analysts stating he was the real deal. Does he have browning Nagle arm? maybe not but lets face it you dont need a canon, just a strong enough arm to make all the passes which is something he can do.
EA sports ranks the players, not xbox. Yes, they are pretty meticulous with the rankings, but I would not rely on their stats at all.
I'm not a big believer in stats and computers to judge arm strength I prefer the old fashioned method. Stool samples.
My bad, yes it's EA. The point is his arm strength is fine. I need to go back and find the scouting report on his arm before the injury. I can't find it but the overall theme was positive. He has a quick release accurate and able to make all NFL throws was part of the article.
If he doesn't learn how to read a defense well all the arm strength in the world won't help him.
Not that there needs to be any more verification that Clemens' arm is stronger than Chad's, but I found it odd that during warm-ups before the Bills game (the first game I have attended in person) that Clemens was working in the 20-25 yard range and Chad in the 10-15 yard range. I guess there's no need to hide it from the fans at this point.
I think his arm is about as good as a Matt Hasselback which is an above average arm which can get the ball deep. He definitely has a good enough arm to make most of the throws plus he has a quick release
I watched Chad and Vinny warming up before the 2003 playoff game before the Colts (this is pre-rotator cuff). And the difference was night and day. Chad's release was such that it almost looked like he was intentionally trying to throw a soft, catchable ball. That's what's weird about Chad is that sometimes it looks like he's throwing soft on purpose.
