The title speaks for itself. Had the Jets stayed with the running game and started Clemens, this game would have been over in the 3rd qtr. No one should get upset over 2 garbage time ints. What we know after this game: Revis can play - an INT, some good blitzing and tackling. Gave up the TD, but that actually was Elam's fault...it really isnt a good idea to tackle your own player when he is in the process of making an INT. Harris was a monster - 15+ tackles??? The pounding he put on Lynch today put him on the sideline for a bit. Clemens - The Chad era is over. I like Chad, but it is obvious that his diminishing physical skills are limiting the offense. Clemens has the arm to stretch the field, back up the defense and create more space for Thomas Jones. Some other thoughts... Pouha in the middle does make a difference. Robertson at DE actually was pretty effective at times. Vilma is gone in the off-season.
This was one of the better defensive performances of the season... Probably the best... 17 tackles for David Harris. Clemens has tremendous zip on his passes too.
ridiculous! Revis got called for roughing the passer, Harris couldn't stop that TD, and Clemens threw an INT. they are terrible! Chad could have made all three of those poor plays!
Harris and Revis definitely played well...Elam took Revis right out of that long TD play. The whole defense really stepped up today...and surprise, surprise, Chad accomplishes nothing.
Harris and Revis seem like the real deal, but Clemens is still a big question mark. Hopefully, he'll show he's more than just a strong arm in the coming weeks.
I agree! The defense looked great. Even the touchdown was a fluke. This one falls solely on Chad's shoulders. Now that the wind is picking up at the Meadowlands his lack of arm strength is an even greater limitation. It doesn't matter how many games Clemens wins as long as he gets the experience. The future does look bright.
The worst that happens is the Jets know they need to draft a QB with their top 5 pick next year. Better to find out now...
If Clemens is garbage the rest of the way, I doubt the Jets would even draft a QB. It took Eli years to get it. Clemens was picked with a 2nd round pick, 8-9 games isn't a big enough sample to determine what Clemens will be.
If Tangini are still in charge, I still doubt that happens. They'd rather prolong the misery than to admit they goofed up (which giving up on Clemens would imply).
Well, I think you are right. The only thing I notice about Revis and this, I think is his major flaw in technique, is he gets his back turned to the ball too often. It has hurt us in the past, and it hurt on the long TD. This is something the coaches are going to have to force down his throat. Why did Revis make the INT? He was in position and didn't have his back turned to the ball. I want to see Clemens the rest of the year. It would be completely pointless to play Chad - even down-right stupid. When your QB can't even get a 100 yards passing and only puts up 3 points - you basically suck. This is not an isolated case but a culmination of what we have seen all season. He only threw one pass greater than 15 yards the whole day - WTF - this is the NFL? Chad had more arm strength last year when he was coming off of re-hab to start the season.
Plus wehave so many other needs on this team, where we KNOW the current starter is not the long term answer.
Exactly; we cannot measure Clemens by W's and L's this year. We have to find out exactly what he can do well and design plays that go to his strengths. BTW, Chad with the hurry up offense - what is so hurry up about it; he consistantly is taking the snap with 1 or 2 seconds on the play clock - it actually was boring the crap out of me this year!!!!!
That's not as much a matter of technique as it is with the type of coverage he's playing. On the pick, he could afford to have his back to the WR and play the ball, because he had help outside. Other times, the coverage scheme doesn't allow you to play off the ball, but requires you to shadow the receiver completely. Thus, it sometimes can't be helped if the CB has his back to the play.
Did you guys ever think Chad was left in so long, so that there was no second guessing in the locker room (he was popular afterall), after he was removed? Mangini knows he's not going anywhere any time soon, so why get crucified by the team, the media, the fans, etc... Sutton is definitely history at the end of the season, and hopefully Schott shows he can use a deep field. I think in the coming weeks we might see a very different team out there.
We can only hope you're right. Can you imagine Thanksgiving watching the Jets get blown out on National TV???????
I didn't see the game (in Miami). can you tell me if KC's interceptions were just bad reads. I'm interested on your thoughts about his play.
