I am wondering if it is better to play 6 or 7 games in the playoffs before going to the WS, or if it is better to play 4 and have all that time off. I can see where the time off would help with aches and pains, but I'm not sure it is an advantage....I think I'd rather have my team "hot", so to speak, going into the series than with a week or so off. JMO.
The only way sitting that long would help is if the Sox had to use Beckett in Game 7 and couldn't start him Game 1 of the Series. But since the rotation is basically set up exactly how they want it, the Sox shouldn't be at any sort of disadvantage due to playing more.
Exactly. And even so, if they could shoehorn Beckett into a Game 2 start, if he couldn't go Game 1, they'd still be able to squeeze him for Game 7. But since the series is only going 6, you'll only get to see him one more time.
I just realized this but just an FYI Francona is going to be the manager at the '08 All-Star game.....
To tell you the truth, I like Francona. As much as I hate the Sox, there's individuals I do like. Francona, Manny, and I've finally come around on Ortiz. All the rest of that misfit band can burn in hell, but whatever.
You like Manny? I hate that selfish prick. Sorry I just dont see him as likeable because he is so dumb.
Actually yeah. At least for the last few years. This is the Rockies RS/RA at home 2007 478-396 2006 456-413 2005 451-447 2004 496-532 2003 517-450 2002 498-491 While runs may be down slightly it really doesn't seem to have any effect on what the Rockies are doing. Could just be they're gotten better pitchers or that the pitchers have "learned" how to pitch in Coors. Certainly doesn't appear to have anything to do with the park, however.
One of the best hitters in the game. Arguably the most clutch, even more than his own teammate. A vastly underrated left fielder, playing in a division with the two hardest left fields to play in. Hits for power but doesn't juice. Clearly genuinely cares about his team, and no one else. I see absolutely no reason to not like him, except the colors that he wears. The reason I don't hate him for that: the Yankees had the opportunity to get him for nothing.
since the humidor, runs per game have decreased significantly. It certainly isn't because after 15 years, the Rockies suddenly know how to pitch in Coors Field. that's all you need to know. how do the rockies still have so many runs? Their lineup has greatly improved. It used to be Helton and not much else. Now they have Hawpe, Holliday, Tulowitzki, and more
He's a lazy showboat. That's a good enough reason. Plus, the main thing you want to see as a fan is the players at least making an effort. Manny doesn't. Not on defense usually and never on the bases. I don't see how anyone could root for a player that is such an arrogant POS that he has to stand at home plate with his arms raised every time he hits a ball he thinks will go out, and who refuses to run balls out.
Greatly improved...at Coors. Hawpe's OPS is .200 points lower on the road, Holliday's .300 and Tulowitzki .240
I do have a problem with the showboating he and Ortiz do when they launch one. Always have, from any hitter. There's no reason for it. (It's a big reason I am a big supporter of pitchers going bezerk when they strike out the side coming off the mound these days, it's revenge.) As for Manny being lazy, that's perceptual, and my perception says that's way off base. As I said, I think Manny is a vastly underrated left fielder, who has to play in the two toughest left fields in all of baseball for more games than anyone else. And he plays them fantastic. He runs out balls like anyone else. Players overall are lazy running the basepaths, especially between home and first on an infield ground ball. The reason Manny seems like he's not even trying is because he's significantly slower than most guys, so he's not even halfway up the line by the time he gets thrown out, whereas, say, Jeter makes it within 2 strides. Sorry, but for a guy who grew up watching people like McGwire, Canseco, Sosa, and Bonds put on a pedestal, someone like Manny, playing the game cleanly, and still putting up numbers like those guys, I have a lot of admiration for. Is he arrogant? Maybe. Does he deserve to be? Probably. Do I care? Not a bit.
What could you possibly have against Mike Lowell? Or Tim Wakefield? Or Okajima, Delcarmen, and Timlin?
Personally, I like the showboating. I enjoy seeing pitchers spaz when they strike someone out. I enjoy watching hitters pose when they hit a homerun. It is part of the entertainment. As far as hurting players' feelings.....screw them and grow up. If your feelings are hurt, maybe you need counselling. Noone likes to lose, tempers flare when things are that competetive, I understand. But when a guy makes a play, he has the right to celebrate. I feel the same about football.
there are plenty of players that put up those kind of numbers that arent lazy, selfish, showboating assholes. as for the lazy part just look at this picture: same game where he walked to first instead of running the bases like a normal athlete and was limited to 1 base after hitting the ball off the top of the wall.
