I could see giving Mangini a pass on a .188 (that's a 3-13 record) or worse season IF the Jets suffered a myriad of injuries to key players. Six games into the season and that's not the case. Mangini can continue to feed the media and fans all his coach-speak about "the process" and "continuing to correct the things we need to correct and working on the things we need to work at", but at the end of the day it's about wins and losses. He's got to start getting some of those wins things.
All reports are tuna wants to be a GM.. not coach. Last time he had the shot at doing that, he gave Vinny, Mo Lewis, et al big deals..
It Seems To Me The Only Thing Mangini Learned From Belichick...is Patronizing Listeners Or Followers....a Spin Doctor Is All He Is!!!!
Mangini isn't going any where. It's fruitless to argue. Everybody saw that how he was brought in, he is not only getting two years. Any way, our current situation isn't like any of those coaches who got fired. THe QB situation from year to year to is the biggest change.
What does that mean? The way he was brought in? Wasn't Mangini brought in in the same manner in which Bill Callahan, Marty Mornhinweg, Mike Mularkey, Rod Rust, Steve Spurrier, Chris Palmer, Hugh Campbell, and Gunther Cunningham were brought in? (Note: those are some of the two-years-or-less head coaches of the past quarter century.)
I don't dare anticipate what our record will be at the end of the year, but 3-13 will tie for the second worst record the Jets have had in the last 20 years (Kotite owns the other two at 3-13 and 1-15). if this team hits that mark (or less), I don't care what big plans management had bringing him, it needs to be scrapped and started over, because it won't get better. I remember after Kotite's first year being optimistic about a 4 or 5 win season going into the next, boy was I wrong. a record as bad as 3-13 is a clear indicator of what is to come.
A coach that coaches a team to 3-13 or worse just can't get his locker room back after that unless there were major injuries involved in the process. Everybody in there knows he's a shmuck at that point and they're all talking about it behind his back. Eventually they're all talking about it to the media as the next season unfolds in similar disarray. The fans are on him also and the media won't let up. Even if he had the ability under the best conditions to improve the team's record he's hardly operating under anything resembling the best conditions. Basically once you get stamped with the loser tag it's a very short step to chump and then you are cooked.
jetblue.........you really need to check out miamipukes thread about intelligent football watchers.......his optimism will surely pick up your spirits. personally i agree mangini has to go, he is a dork. miamipuke thinks we are 5 players away from being a contender.... doesnt that make you feel reassured?
LMAO... he might be the crypt keeper, but he's still coaching... and lately they are beginning to win again. It takes time to build a team back up. That is what it will take the Jets. Unfortunately no one has the patience for that. :breakdance:
The line is 5 days until tbruner12 gets banned....Ill take the under since hes completely and utterly clueless, and quite the "fill in negative word here" see ya in the TT Forum!
I don't know, all those coaches were brought in to facilitate a change in not only scheme, but the culture of the franchise to mimic the current dominate dynasty in your division. And at a age were it is clear you what that coach to lead your team for decades.....................Don't think so. It's obvious eric has the complete backing of the ownership.
I think pretty much every poster here had patience when Mangini was hired. However, that would go out the window after a season in which the Jets finished 10 or more games under .500. This team can still rebound and finish 6-10, although the signs don't look promising.
I am not quite following you here. I also don't get your final two sentences in post #28. It may be me. I'm tired and need to go to bed. I'll leave with this- I don't want Mangini to put himself in a situation this year where firing him becomes even a thought. I want him to turn the team around now and I want him to coach the team for 15 years like Bill Cowher coached the Steelers. However, I don't want a bad coach coaching this team for three years. You see what I'm saying? I'm sorry, but if Mangini coaches this team to a .188 mark or worse, he's a bad coach.
At the moment guys there is no guarantee that we wont be picking No1 in next years draft although I think it unlikely, however, if the Jets don't win 5 games this year Mangini will be in real trouble. Mangini is a nice guy, and talks a good game, his attention to detail is superb but somewhere along the line the Jets fans will tire of hearing how "we have to do some things better" press conferences. A losing season this year will buy him at best the following season to turn us into a team capable of going to the SB.
And this is the exact attitude why the Jets do, and will always suck. How the hell will a franchise ever be successful when its a freaking revolving door for players and coaches. Every thread you write its bench him, cut him, fire him, etc, etc. Some of you honestly seem to think you wave a magic wand and look, you have a SB... either your clueless or just making posts to infuriate people.
Parcells is great! But Mangini is the coach of the Jets, and that's not going to change anytime soon. Nor should it. I'm proud to have Mangini on this team. Sure, his obsession over the type of defense the Jets play is insane, and yes, Penny should have sat a long time ago - a couple of youthful indisgressions - but Mangini is the man and he will lead us to victory one day. At least, I hope he will
