Vilma isn't going anywhere, and neither is Mangini. Pennington and our young, inexperienced offensive line will be blamed for this season sucking. If any major change is going to happen by next year, it will be at QB. Mangini will not be gone and I highly doubt Vilma will be either. He is too good of an athlete, he's a leader, and improving every week in the 3-4.

This Vilma/Mangini stuff is typical Jets bipolar disorder. Our coach is either a genius or an oaf, and our most athletic/talented defensive player is either playing phenomenally or he'll never fit into the scheme.

The reality is that we're just what we were last year; a mediocre-to-poor team with a quarterback who is past his prime and a defense that's adapting to a new (and likely inappropriate) scheme. We won last year on an easy schedule, surprise and some flair. This year is about recognizing weaknesses and adjusting, which is not a strength of Mangini's--noted by our opponents who read our plays like a book.

Bottom line: we keep Vilma because it makes minimal financial sense to trade him, and because he provides speed and strength in open space. We keep Mangini for at least another season to see if there is progress. We already know that dubbing him "Mangenius" was hasty, but is 3 head coaches in two and a half years going to help get us to the SB? Be realistic.

The 1982 Broncos collapsed due to key losses on defense and too many turnovers from the offense.
Bill Thompson had been the Broncos starting SS for 9 years, including their first Super Bowl team. He retired before the 1982 season.
The free safety was Steve Foley. He broke his arm in Week 1 and was out for the year.
Their LOLB, Bob Swenson, was coming off a 1st team All-Pro season (guys named Lawrence Taylor and Jack Lambert were the other linebacker selections) and held out till the final four games of the '82 season.

The 1976 Oilers actually started 4-1 with the loss being a 14-13 squeaker to the eventual Super Bowl champion Oakland Raiders.
Then all sorts of injuries wrecked the team. QB Dan Pastorini asked to be traded at midseason and then got injured the next week and was lost for the season.

3 head coaches in 2 and a half years is a better shot at getting to the super bowl than 3 in 3 and half years...

I'm more than willing to wait and see how things end up before I call for Mangini's head, but if it's a disaster then he (and we) are cooked regardless and sweeping up sooner rather than later is the right move in that scenario.

if they trade vilma..i would cut my wrist...no1 should be traded..a few free agent signing will be good for them (HOPEFULLY #2 pick for JASON TAYLOR)...if they trade vilma they would be back were they started...he his a young player.i think getting rid of abrahem hurt us...theres no point in getting rid of people u just drafted.

I would take Jason Taylor for a number two. I would try and work that down to a third, but that would really help the 3-4. What about Dansby????
