Mangini is trying to build this team using the patrios mold and so far hes done just that by signing guys like chatham and dwight. The patriots dont draft tackles in the first round because they are content with above average players who know the system and run it to the best of their abilities. (Ashworth for exampe). I dont see us using the number 4 pick in the draft on dbrickshaw but i can easily see us drafting the drafts best defensive player. Many experts agree that mario williams is the safest pick for any team to make on draft day because hes just that damn good. I mean his speed is unbelievable considering he is almost 30 lbs heavier than J-abe. I also wouldnt be surprised if the jets collectively see 06 as a transition year and decide to trade up for leinart and hope to groom him to be ready for 07. BY that time we'd have almost 25mill in cap room and could really build up the team around a franchise qb. Either way the future looks bright jets fans as we are no sitting pretty with 3 picks in the top 35. And for the first time since the drob trade were not gonna have to wait 2 hours into the draft to get our man

Mel Kiper was just on the Colin Cowherd show on ESPN Radio and he saw the draft going like this.

    Texans-Bush
    Saints - Mario
    Texans - Leinart
    Jets- Ferguson
    Packers-Hawk.

He did also say that he does think the NO will eventually trade their pick.
If the Jets do want Mario then they have to hope that someone trades up with the Saints.

While Kiper may know the college talent inside and out..he doesn't have an in with the front office of every team. I really don't think the Jets will take Ferguson. I think they will trade up for Leinart, or stay put and take Hawk.

if runyan signs, i would be shocked if they didnt go for a playmaker at the top end of the draft, think of it like this, you have jones, who is supposivly the left tackle of the future, and runyan as ur book ends, a very capable brandon moore as a guard, same goes for kendell, especially if he plays gaurd, if hes center i doubt he will be as effective, and the ? mark at the other gaurd/ center will be answered late in the first round of the draft.

I agree this is spot to take a play maker, with NO not needing a Qb were going to have a oppurtunity to get one of the top 2, albeit i think mangini wants nothing to do with vince young, i wouldnt be suprised if they choose a defensive stud, as they slowly but surely rebuild the offense, a few draft picks here and there, see what chad has, big FA aquisition next year at receiver or RB, and see what materializes.

at 4 though, we should have a chance to get one hell of playmaker.

No we don't...Shaun Ellis is the only one with a big contract, but I agree it's time for Leinart.

Think he may be talking about the new guy we signed. Not a big contract though.

I'd argue that they do worse - they've twice drafted guards in the first round.

EDIT: My bad. Damien Woody was drafted as a center.

Is the money he's making a reason for not getting someone to play his position even better? NO QB IF WE NEED TO TRADE UP FOR HIM!

Sorry i'm not that into the 3-4 System - but Super Mario needed to move to OLB to play on 3-4, right?

Mario would be a DE in the 3-4. Here's what our personnel look like in a 3-4 with Mario on the team.

    ILB - Vilma
    ILB/OLB - Hobson
    OLB - Barton
    OLB/DE - Thomas
    DE - Ellis, Mario
    DE/DT - Kimo, Robertson, Reed
    DT - Puoha
