This was the first time I heard him and I really liked his insights. He said there are only two players on the Jets defense that are worth keeping: Rhodes and Hobson. I was surprised he said Hobson. He said the problem with the running game is the no-huddle. It doesn't give the O-lineman time to get set and in rhythm. He felt the defense uses too much motion to try to hide their coverage.
What ends up happening is the offense ignores this and blow them off the line. Exactly.

Hobson has been the only even remotely visible LB this season, so I can see where he's coming from there. Although i would keep Revis and Harris on potential alone as well.

The no huddle bit could hold some truth as well, it's interesting. There has to be some deeper reason as to why the run blocking is this bad, and I just can't believe it's purely the talent level.

    Yeah, I think it's a problem, too.
Stop with the dancing. Just line up and play.
I have a good quote from a head coach about this very topic. It may have been from Bum Phillips, in fact. That's notable because he was one of the masters of coaching the 3-4 defense.
I'll look for it tonight or tomorrow. If I find it, I'll post it.

I think Banks would say Revis and Harris in keeping them, he just forgot.

  5. I wouldnt go on everythink Banks says. He's def. a smart guy who knows his football, but there are often times his opinions are knee jerk and lack substance. Especially about the Jets.

The Hobson bit doesn't surprise me at all... He's very underrated...

Those two guys (Rhodes and Hobson) are the ONLY guys who, when we blitz them, seem DETERMINED to get there... We don't send them nearly enough, but when we do, they ALWAYS disrupt the play

Hobson has been a very pleasant surprise this year

He said the no huddle didn't help but also that since we do not just try to line up and pound it, but instead, we try to TRICK, hurts the OL as well.

Ill give Hobson that he is the best blitzing LB on the team. Mayb even the best pass rusher we have (which is sad). But he is by far a great LB, he is TERRIBLE in coverage and open-field tackling. I think we should take BT out and make Hobson rush every play to atleast use his strengths effectively.

    Hobson, are you Joking? Haha!

Hobson has been down right horrible, he's way to slow to be a pass rushing LB (like we use him) or even a coverage LB, and he is too small to play inside. Victor Hobson is nothing more then a backup NFL LB, if you think differently you need to go back and watch all our games starting in week 1. Because I have, and Victor Hobson sucks.

He is not too small to play inside. He's heavier than Vilma, Barton and Harris. Agreed he is slow and not good at open field tackling which is why at ILB in a 3-4 he'd be placed only in traffic headed north-south. He is great in the box. He played middle linebacker in college and is the only backer on this team who can engage an OG one on one. Hobson and Harris at ILB would be a good run stuffing tandem. I don't know what you've been watching but he hasn't been downright horrible, he's been the only linebacker actually doing anything out there this year. YOU go back and watch some video footage, because I see VILMA, BARTON and THOMAS doing way less than what Hobson has. And that is coupled with bad defensive line play.

I dislike Hobson as a 3-4 OLB. He lacks the speed off the edge to be effective IMO.

I think he could be a decent ILB in this scheme. He has the size for it.

Unless we beef up the D line and get a pass rusher on the edge it will not matter much where, or if, he plays. This D is currently average on it s best days.

I really respect Banks opinions but I thought Hobson has played terribly this year. Him and Barton look like crap
