what other reason could hold him to 12 carries per game? ( besides the o-line, hold your remarks) can anybody see a difference in his agility, and quickness? if he is still smarting because of the achillies, is he the long term awnser to our rb position? they shoot race horses over this matter, so maybe we should keep looking?
I liked the trade when they made it, and imo the run blocking hasnt been good overall. Maybe some of that is due to the speculation that opposing Ds crowd the LOS since they arent afraid of CP throwing deep. But yesterday I was sitting in the end zone in a mezzanine seat, and I saw a couple of nice holes opened up by the OL that he did not get thru quickly enough, and what could have been 8-10 yard runs ended up as 2-3 yard runs. I was not happy when i saw that.
The thing that's holding him to 12 carries a game is that he's running poorly behind a line that is not opening any holes for him. The book on Jones is that he's very good for 12 to 15 carries and then he tails off a lot after that. This was true in both of his big seasons with Chicago. So if you run him 8 or 10 times and he's getting 3 yards a carry it's not like there's any significant percentage in giving him a lot more carries that game. If and when he comes out of the box strong and gets 40 yards in his first 8 or 10 carries I'm sure the Jets will continue to run him that game. Given the state of the Jet's line that might or might not happen this season at some point.
I vote we sign michael turner after the season. He will be a free agent, he is still young, we don't have too much money invested into thomas jones and he just dropped 150 on 10 carries. You have to like that!
Oh please, let's not start already with the Mike Turner man-love...we had enough of that in the off-season. And I believe TJ will be a great back for us for the next 3 years.
It's also what he said when he got here if anybody bothered to listen. His words went something like this. "I look forward to carrying the ball 15 times a game and helping the Jets..blah..blah..blah."
