Pennington has a 50/50 shot of starting this week against the Giants. Hopefully Clemens plays, as many of you know I believe Pennington is holding the team back. Bash me if you want, but everyone is allowed their own opinion. http://www.jetscentral.com/?p=676
This has been just a bizarre string of events regarding the QB's. Mangini is starting to look like a Magic 8-baller.
If Chad doesn't play later today I think it will not because he is injuried... Mangini is probably making it looking like Chad's injury is the reason for the limited practice. Its either that or Mangini wants the Giants to get ready for Chad's soft arm and Clemens monster arm.
I dunno what's going to happen this week, but if Pennignton plays and cant get a win at the easiest "away" game of the year, I think CP is done. I love what he has done in the past, but right now he I think is at the least holding us back from seeing what we have in Clemens. Since we all agree, we at least need a spark that Penny just is not giving us right now, I think KC has to play soon. it's been a while since we have had that strong armed QB who took us the distance. That was Vinny in 1998, it has already been 9 years since then. In 2002 Chad turned us around after 5 games, so maybe KC can do it for us in 2007.
Just thinking the same thing. It's the smart move--exploit the injury to avoid a QB controversy. If Clemens starts and plays well, Mangini can keep him in and say it's because Chad's not healed yet. If he stinks up the joint, Mangini can say it was only an injury substitution and bring Chad back in. That's fine for one game, but if he is indeed playing this game, he's playing with fire. That kind of constant flux is not only bad for offensive continuity on the field, it can divide a locker room. Eventually he'll need to officially anoint a starter.
Clemens could win the game too. But with that front 7 and the fact that he holds the ball for too long, I hope the poor kid doesnt get sacked McNabb style. Then again Brick looks good this year. I think that whoever starts at QB, its going to be tough for the O-Line to stop that front 7 IMO.
This is just Mangini's way of not owning up and saying he may have had a mistake. The guy is really becoming an asshole. No way did Pennington get worse in last week's game.
and you know this how? His throwing in the 2nd half did get much worse.. maybe the ankle had something to do with it? I'm speculating.. I have no inside knowledge
Doing it this way eases the pressure on Clemens, for a start - coming in as the 'saviour' of the team is a big deal, covering for an injured colleague is still massive, but not as much. Also, this way forces the other team to prepare for two different QBs.
Maybe, but it won't effect how the Giants prepare at all. The CBs won't cheat as much expecting short passes but that is nothing you prepare, it's just how you play on game day. If Clemens does play you can expect a lot more blitzing then even if Pennington does. Another game day decision. Hopefully Clemens has improved on how he reacts to pressure over his rookie year when he looked like a scared rabbit running around. Baltimore didn't seem to get much pressure on him at all.
I was suprised to hear Chad still having ankle problems, you would think it would have healed by now. Something is amiss there. A sprained ankle still hurting after two weeks? If there was a problem, he should have been resting during the week. Perhaps he reinjured it and everyone was told to keep it quiet.
I think Pennington has been questionable for 3 weeks now. This means absolutely nothing. Chances are pretty good that with a high ankle sprain he might be questionable for every game until after the bye week. Pennington played exactly like Pennington is capable of playing last week.
But there was a certainty of him starting last week, and now this week is in question? But I guess that could just be a reporter with nothing to write this week so he throws that out there.
