This poll is useless. You should just change it to "How many Mets fans and how many Yankee fans are there?" You'd get the same results.
That exactly it... I've seen multiple Met fans including myself say what a disgrace the Met collapse was but also presented the facts as to why the Yankees collapse was worse. Yet I haven't seen one Yankee fan admit to what an embarrasment the Yanks were in 04, 05 or 06 all a direct result of blowing that series against the Sox. Junc even had it in his sig.... Arod is 1-44 since Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS. I still haven't seen a Yankee fan acknowledge the fact that the Phils were 19 games better than the Mets since June 1 or how they won 11 of 14 against the Mets. If you take Mets and Phils out of the mix and replace it with Brewers/Cubs these Yankee fans would just say Chicago was the better team but because it's the Mets it's all bias in these threads. Obviously the Mets were pitiful in September and only needed to win 2 games in the final 7 to make the playoffs and didn't but this was a team that played under .500 for the final 4 months of a season. It's not a 100 win team that likely would have won the WS.
Losing 4 games is bad but it's harer to lose a 7 game led w/ 2 weeks to play and at least we were coming off a dynasty when we choked so it cushioned the blow a bit, the Mets haven't won a Championship in over 20 years so their choke was worse.
I don't see how that would've helped. After losing to the D-Backs and Marlins, wouldn't it hurt more in '04? And the Mets were never THREE OUTS away from anything. That's the ultimate choke job.
You guys lost 6 of your last 7 (at home) to the Marlins, Nats and Cards come on its not even close. The only thing funnier then the Mets choke job is the fans making excuses for them blowing a 7 game lead with 2 weeks to play.
GYC is worse, losing in the playoffs when it's practically in the bag is worse than not making the playoffs at all.
I have to agree the GYC was worse. The Mets choke this year just brings them to their historical level: a pathetic and inept franchise that rarely can do anything right. If they'd won a couple of games last week, that'd mean they'd just get shellacked in the NLDS this week. In 04, on the other hand, the Yanks had the Sox on the ropes and probably would've won the World Series. Much worse.
I voted gmc,but after thinking about it,the gyc was worse. There is just to excuse for what the Yanks pulled in 04. It really doesn't get any worse than that. But the GMC was just as bad in patheticness. The Mets are more expected to pull soemthing like that which eases it a bit. But,the Mets celebrated 04 more than sox fans. If that isn't pathetic enough, the GMC is STFU material to last for years. Karma is a bitch.
Losing to Boston after being up 3-0 was terrible and nobody will deny that. Losing to Arizona with Johnson and Schilling at the top of their games was not, nor was losing to Florida with Pavano and Beckett. Oh, and A-rod has 4 hits since game 4 of that ALCS but who's counting? In the first 3 games he batted .429 after batting .421 in the ALDS too but I can see you are one of those who thinks he should have won the entire series single handedly. Besides, without him the Yankees would have never been there to begin with. Here's something else you can think about. If A-rod played for the Mets this year instead of the Yankees you would be thinking about winning a world series instead of writing this crap.
Seeing as it's 3 years later and the Yanks still haven't recovered I'm going to say the GYC was a worse collapse. In additon to that it happened on their home field against there biggest rival and paved the way for the Sox to break the curse... Althought the 2007 Mets is fresh in our mind right now, it will be forgotten quickly by the baseball world outside of NY. The same can not be said of the GYC because there will forever be a ALCS Pennant banner hanging in Fenway commemorating the GREAT YANKEE COLLAPSE of 2004. As for which thread is worse, clearly the answer is GMC. It's telling to see all the people who cried about GYC now posting daily in the GMC, we must have really stung you guys LOL! It's flattering to see you copying our creative and funny posts... but at the same time it's dissapointing that you couldn't come up with something clever on your own, I expected better.
I know this will look biased because I'm a Sox fan, but I honestly think the GYC was worse, for three reasons. 1. It was in the playoffs, so it's magnified. 2. The Yankees were three outs away with "the best closer ever" on the mound. 3. This is the biggest one for me- The Mets collapse has precedence. The Sox in '78, the Angels a few years ago, the Brewers this year... it's happened before where a team blew a big lead in the regular season. No team had EVER blown a 3 run lead in the playoffs before, so it was the first of it's kind, and therefore a bigger deal.
Did you even read my post? There is not one mention of Arizona or Florida. There was no shame in losing to Arizona in 01 or the Marlins in 03 or even the Angels in 02. But I didn't bring up things previous to the GYC. As far as Arod I was only acknowledging what your fellow Yankee fan had to say about him. I don't care how many hits he has but junc apparently did (until he single handidly carried the Yankees into the playoffs). Your statement about Arod and the Yankess not being there is absurd. They'd gotten to the WS 3 of the previous 4 years without him why wouldn't they get back without him? I don't see how what I wrote is crap? I explained to you which yet again has failed to be acknowledged by Yankee fans what proves the Phillies were the better team than the Mets. 19 games better for 3/4 of the season, beat them 11 out 14 after April. So what the Mets lost to the Marlins and Nationals. The Nats where better after the All Star break than the Mets yet that isn't acknowledged. The only people who know anything about the Mets are Met fans. You guys don't watch the Mets so for you to comment on how good or bad they are is ridiculous. On the other hand GYC was not only witnessed by Yankee and Red Sox fans, it was witnessed by the entire world and a banner will forever hang in Boston because of it. I'm pretty sure a NL Champions or WS Champion banner won't be hanging in Philly becuase of the Mets.
At least one Yankee fan has the guts to admit how bad GYC was. I think a large percentage of Met fans will admit what a disgrace their team is but finally a well thought out post by a Yankee fan . I'll only disagree on the Mets fans celebrating, I don't live in NY so I won't answer for what it was like in NY but on this board there are only 2 or 3 Red Sox fans vs 15 -20 Met fans. Of course they'll be more Met fans in GYC than Sox fans.
Again, I will NEVER understand why Red Sox fans so easily align themselves with Mets fans, when the highlight of the Mets Franchise is Bill Buckner. Sure I hate the Patriots, but I am not going to sing "Gumbaya" around the campfire with Dolphins fans in solidarity.
even so,a few of the met fans here celebrated more than the sox fans here did. some even put "president of the ______ chapter of gyc" etc in their sig. I saw it in the news,on the street, after 04 the Met fans celebrated it more than the sox fans(or in a different way anyway). I know you hate the Yanks, but atleast you love the Mets more than you hate the Yanks, which is more than i can say about some other Met fans.
I wouldn't go that far. I see the Mets finishing behind the Phils next year too. A team that started the way the Mets did have no excuse for the way they finished. GYC was worse because of the rivalry, but the GMC will have lasting effects because it only showed the holes in your team that were covered up before. And,how is it that the Yanks haven't recovered? We won the season series vs the sox the last 2 years, knocked them out last year and nearly repeated 78 this year.
You gotta understand the difference though: Unlike Yankees fans who can watch a DVD, Mets fans need to blow the dust of their Hi-Fi video cassettes to watch their last World Series Championship.
Where am I aligning with Met fans? I gave my reasons, and none of them have anything to do with which team I root for or which teams I dislike.
