On my ride in this morning I was wondering if we'd see a repeat from last year, where Brick was charged with 3 sacks by Schoebel. I don't know if you'd liken Jason Taylor's style to Schoebel, but Brick did appear to hold his own, however it was with alot of help from Baker. If I was Schoebel, by this point I'd have somehow obtained Brick's address, sent him poster-board sized shots of Schoebel laying Pennington on his ass, maybe even some game film, a box of chocolates and a big "Thank you" card, post-dated to 30SEP07 of course. Psychological warfare at its best.
I don't know if Schoebel will get a sack but he will give Brick trouble. He has been giving everyone trouble lately. If our Qbs hold on the the ball too long I assume Schoebel will get there eventually.
Another big test for the kid....he'll do it. Then we can stop all this 'bust' talk.....at least for another week :rofl2:
From Cimini: Taylor was in the game for 23 pass plays. Here's how the Jets stopped him: 10 plays - Isolated on Ferguson, one on one. 5 plays - Ferguson gets help from Chris Baker or Leon Washington, each of whom "chip" Taylor. 3 plays - Taylor lines up over Ferguson, but stunts to the inside and is picked up by an interior lineman. 2 plays - Taylor drops into coverage. 1 play - Taylor lines up over RT Anthony Clement. 1 play - Pennington spikes the ball on a clock play. 1 play - Taylor is blocked by Clarke. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/
OK, looks like a mix of Ferguson one on one or Ferguson with help. Respectable- something to build upon.
Definitely something to build on. But lets face it, the O-line is pretty horrendous. Hopefully they can take some momentum from this game...
i wouldnt liken their styles at all. this is why I dunno what to expect. even his rookie year he handled Taylor decently. but obviously has improved. Schoebel though is relentless as hell. and bullrushes more often and I expect that to give him more problems than a edgerusher like Taylor. we'll see.
I belive Schoebel is similar, but not as well rounded as JT. It is another tough test this week and I'm looking forward to seeing how Brick handles him. Is he D'bust or D'best, because you know there is no inbetween for 90% of Jets fans. The good thing is they are so fickle it can change from week to week.
It should be a great test for Brick. Obviously you wanna see him do it against the Patsies and the Ravens but you have to walk before you can run. If he handles his own this week with or without help we'll see where he is really at. I think the Patsies and Ravens are elite defensive teams so with the Bills it's better to get an accurate assesment of his progress.
Isn't Schobel more of a bull rush end and JT, although versatile, relies more on speed to get to the QB?
Yep. That's why it's a great test for D'Brick. He's done much better throughout this entire season, but this is a direct measure. Schobel will try to disrupt his footwork and push him back to collapse the pocket. Last year, it worked.
itll work again. i expect him to have problems. if you cant run block (and brick cant) he will have problem with anyone whos an effective bullrusher. technique helps but with bullrushers you have to engage and drive as if your run blocking otherwise youll be backpedaling the whole time. another tool to dealing with bullrushers is to get good extension once engaged because it slows them down and messes will occasionally stall the rushers legs forcing him to change direction and in turn make him farther from the qb. but brick has trouble getting that extension, its the same kind of attitude and hand technique that makes you an effective run blocker, which i mentioned earlier we know brick isnt good at. brick is built to deal with edge rushers, not bullrushers. I hope he proves me wrong but I expect Schobel in our backfield a bit whether it be sacks or just pressure.
Yeah yeah yeah Schobel schooled him game 2 vs the Bills. Anybody care to remember game #1. Schobel was average at best.
How much of football is pschological? If Brick lets Schobel into his head , he'll get kicked off the park again. Brick did a good job against Jason T but that was a battle not the war.
He has 1 sack this year. Honestly, this Buffalo defense is a joke. They are so riddled with injuries. Schoebel is a good player, but he played way over the top last year. Without full support, I think the Jets will be fine.
D'Brick will hopefully hold his own for a number of reasons: 1) D'Brick has more confidence this week and possibly than any other after keeping Chad off of his ass and being blindsided. 2) Buffalo's D, being what they are, will hopefully open up opportunities for the JETS in offense. If Shoebel is working his ass off while Coles or Cotch are making catches before he touches Chad, his frustration will get to him. We need to have our nice long drives and tire the shit out of their D. So much that they won't want to even be on the field by the 4th Qtr. 3) There is nothing wrong with help. Baker helped out, among others, and as long as we stay away from the PHUCKING PAUL HACKETT JET SCREENS to the WR's, we'll be okay with the pass and run.
