Here's my question... Why don't we ever throw to Baker outside of the redzone? He's proven to have great hands and concentration last year and this year, and could be a really reliable target in the seam.... I know we keep him in a lot to help out in pass protection (something he's been excellent at) but I really think he needs to be utilized more in the passing game... We go to him 1-2 times every game, and it he makes a play EVERY TIME! Baker's got real potential, but for now he's looking like it's going to be a 15 catch, 15 TD season for him!
Chris Baker is the man. You give him the ball, he gets the job done. Even when he isn't involved in a pass play, he is doing something positive on a drive.
I wondered about this too. You would think that Chad would be able to use Baker through the middle effectively. If he was at NE, he'd be getting heaps of passes.
Likely because we've thus far had to leave our TEs back to protect Chad and give him time to throw the ball. You don't need much time to drop back when every route is limited to 10 yards.
The place you use a tightend is up the seams and in between. How often does Chad use that part of the field except as a 6 yard outlet? Almost never.
wow beamen.. i couldnt agree with u more.. baker's concentration and the degree of difficulty on his catches are amazing.. baker is the touchdown maker.. i love his heart.. even tho he never gets the ball, the times he does he always makes the play..
I have a theory that expands on why Baker doesn't get the ball more often. Some will love it because it even finds a way to place the blame on Penny. Besides the obvious - he needs to pitch in to help out with the pass protection, I believe there isn't any room for Baker to operate because the wideouts occupy the middle of the field. Penny's inability to throw outside the hashmarks means there is only so much field to work with. As good as baker is as a receiver(I think he's proven himself to be more than capable) it makes more sense to put the ball in the hands of our playmakers Coles and Cotch. In a more traditional offense they would be stretching the field and working the sidelines giving Baker space to roam.
Baker does need to get into the offense more often...he has soft hands and knows how to use his body...not fast but still gets open.
The light went on and somebody realized we have a good tight end to throw to after how many years exactly?????
Excellent observation. Wow. Lets kick our QB again, no matter what he does and how he wins there is always someone wanting to put him down. Keep going guys you'll drive Chad out sooner or later and when you see him pick up a ring in another uniform you can hang yoour heads in shame!
What great hands he has. That TD catch was amazing, the way he controlled it was key when they reviewed it. He even let go with one hand, which proved beyond doubt that he had control inbounds.
Clearly the problem is our line, we need to be active in FA next off season, the D-line and O-line need a huge bust with a kick in the ass
BTW how many one handed catches has this guy made? it seems every catch is a spectacular grab.they robbed him in Cleveland...
