The guy worked so hard this offseason, has the smarts and he has the ability, but this guy has simply been NON-EXISTENT! I defended Vilma all of last year and this offseason, but enough is enough. It is pretty obvious to me that Vilma is NOT a fit in the 3-4 nor will he ever be. We won the game today and I am glad, but our defense looked awful against an awful offense. How can Ronnie Brown explode for a huge performance like that on a defense with plenty of talent? Vilma is just one of many Jet defenders who are not fit for the 3-4 defense and it is REALLY starting to show now. 21 Total Tackles, 13 solo, 8 assists, 0 FF, 0 FR, 0 INT'S, 0 Passes defensed, and 0 Sacks Thoughts?
I saw him come clean on a blitz and got shoved from behind on the sack that Ellis got....credit vilma for that because he rolled on the ground and forced Green to step up into Ellis giant paws.... but yea, he needs to either be moved to OLB or traded...Harris looks like a much more viable option in the future to be an ILB
I think it is very possible that Vilma is shipped for a 1st rounder... Which is really sad IMO...he would be such an awesome 4-3 LB at this point if we were still in that system.
i actually thought vilma played decent today, better then usual as of late.. he was around the play on most plays. his akcles numbers dont show it, but for the first time in a while i thought vilma played well
I guess... There is always the argument that we need a Bigger, stronger and younger line...maybe this is what Vilma really needs.
Tying him for 44th in the entire league. I mentioned this in another thread, they posted a stat yesterday during the game: since 2005, he's got 441 tackles (at the point they psoted the graphic, might be 1 or 2 more now), making him the 5th leading tackler in the league during that time period. Exactly how much is expected of him? Should he have 25 sacks, 50 tackles, 6 INTs, and 3 FFs already? Vilma is among the least of our problems on defense.
Fair play to him making a lot of tackles, but the generally give up 4-5 yards. He does not make the big plays, I think thats were the criticism starts.
You sound like a broken record, they want vilma to have 18 tackles and 2 forced fumbles along with an eye closed jumping one handed interception which he returns for a touchdown... Backwards
He played pretty good yesterday...considering. I really think they need to move him outside and see how it works....or trade him for a 1st. Try moving him first though.
Jets can't get a first rounder for Vilma at this point. He's moved too far off of the emerging star status he had in 2005. They might get a 2nd rounder from a team that really needed a middle linebacker.
Why are threads always putting down the little good we have. It's like all the CP threads. Vilma is doing fine, him and CP are the least of the team worries.
Were you watching yesterday? He was all over the field in the first half. The announcers named him a ton of times for being part of or around a ton of plays. He also should have had the assist on the first sack, as his pressure made Green move to the right side of the pocket, where Ellis sacked him. Vilma led the team in tackles last season. Plus, what inside linebacker in the 3-4 racks up sacks? For a guy whose build does not suit the system, he is doign fairly well, the problem is he isn't the standout he was in his first 2 years, and that it the coaches' fault. Before you place blame, learn the system and understand the reasons why. his results will be different.
OK, so if 3-4 linemen aren't supposed to collect stats and 3-4 ILBs aren't supposed to collect stats...then who is? BT and the secondary? Ever hear of Tedi Bruschi? That's just ridiculous...it's time to start evaluating every defensive player on a case by case basis including, and starting with, the coach.
Beyond that, he had his hand around Green's ankle. He was already tripping Green, while on the ground, when Ellis came over the top on him.
Usually it is the outside linebackers who are getting the stats which is a reason why they are usually the ones up for DPOY, as for your Bruschi example his numbers are very similar to Vilma's so it only confirms my point, and that isn't even bringing the point of our terrible dline which is our biggest problem, not Vilma
