did anybody else catch that bullshit? that time out was so friggin cheap it was pathetic. i mean, theres no way that should have been granted by the refs. i hate the raiders and i was pissed...maybe thats b/c im not a fan of shanahan and his giant teeth... that was such a bullshit move though, and janikowski who made the first kick missed the second one.. on a side note, he drilled both balls, and it was a 52 yarder....on the miss he hit the TOP of the goal post. jesus christ that guys got leg...
my only problem was, if the refs are going to essentially allow a coach to call a timeout in advance, the opposing team should be made aware of it. it shouldn't be a secret if you want the refs to do something for you. either you should call it that very second and hope the ref can stop the play in time, or confer with the ref to stop the clock at a specific time, in which the opposing coach knows as well. but you shouldn't get both opportunities.
I agree with you .... I was watching the end of the game and maybe it's me but I thought they blew the whistle after the ball was snapped and the FG was in the air. Rough if you are a Raider fan only to see the Broncos go downfield and win.
Thats tough. After their whole comeback against one of their biggest rivals... terrible way to lose it.
Oakland should have won the game, the TO was late, and i do not think that it should have been granted. But i was totally shocked to see Janikowski's leg, from 53 yards he kicked it off the TOP of the goal post, absolutely nuts. which brought about the question in my mind, If a kicker kicks the ball directly OVER the goal post does the kick count? or is it no good? if it is a little inside the middle of the post is it good? a little outside the middle of the post (but still mainly over the post) is it good or no good? what to do i wonder....
Personally, I was absolutely positive that the whistles blew before the kick, and was yelling it at the TV as the ball was snapped. I also see no reason why the opposing coach should be warned that that is what a team plans to do. It's called gamesmanship, and (unlike some other things we've been talking about recently) is not cheating at all. I will admit, however, that the fact that it was the Raiders made it more pleasurable for me.
thats not gamesmanship, that was a cheap tactic. this illustrates why TOs shouldnt be allowed to be called from the sidelines. i hate oakland, and usually revel in their fans distress...but this was just too much. horseshit.
I think the Raiders got screwed and I also think the timeout should have to be called from the field. But I don't think the Broncos are going anywhere, the barely beat the Bills and basically lost to the Raiders, which Detroit beat in Oakland. They are not that good.
I saw it the same way. While the ball was in the air, you could see the ref waving his arms. I also heard the whistle blow. I don't see anything wrong. Tough luck for the Raiders. The second kick was huge thought. Hit the top of the upright.
yea this is understood in football. Coaches notify the refs too. Raiders knew it was coming too. Bad luck missing the 2nd thats all.
It is not a cheap tactic. The Broncos were perfectly in the right as outlined by an official NFL rule. Also, the whistle did blow before the kick.
Did it? Both teams played it like there was no whistle at all. Neither side heard one. Both left the field, Denver looked dejected. I wouldn't be so sure about that whistle.
I could swear I heard a whistle live. Then, on a replay, one could clearly see Shanahan talking to an official about getting a timeout called before the snap. Folks, this is not too uncommon. We saw this several times in recent years. I may be mistaken, but I think it was a couple years ago when this coach-being-able-to-call-a-timeout thing was implemented.
No, It was the right call as shanahan clearly called the time out. Jankowski is a big reason why Raiders are 0-2. I don't know what Kiffin sees in MCCown but JMO if Culpepper started that game. The game would never had come down to jankowski. There is no way a NFL QB should miss a wideopen as open as J porter- who could have walked into endzone. Robert gallerylooks to be developing into a dominating LG.
