This is killing the Jets. There is just never any pressure whatsoever, and that is what really cost the Jets this game. McCareins will get the official blame, and that is fine with me, but if this defense doesn't figure out a way to get to the QB and get him on the ground, then it's just going to be a long, long season.
It is very concerning. As always the collapsing of the pocket is good, but we never get anything on the edge. Anyone think the D got alot better when we switched the 4-3?
Tone, we did see the PR late in the 4th when Sutton decided to bring the house several times. We just don't have the horses anymore since we traded JAbe. Ellis is sometimey at best. BThomas? never shows up. We still don't have a true NT in Robertson and our LB's can't play a 3/4 to save their lives. I like the Ravens rendition of the old "47" defense. It probably would work for us too. Stack 8 on the line and bring different folks from different angles. That at least will buy us time until either Mangenius dumps this 3/4 or finally gets the right people to play it.
Did anyone notice we either rushed 3 or 8? It seamed like it was either no rush or an all-out blitz with everyone open.......
I remember that's what we were doing last year when we played well...... I just haven't seen it yet......
The only time we pass rushed well the whole game, was when Sutton sent the house in on 3rd and five before we got the ball back. Other than that, we did NOTHING to pressure a sub par QB.
I think by the lack of pass rush it was obvious that Belly mailed a tape of our defensive signals to the Ravens this week. Well, that, or our front 7 suck.
No sack for the Jets this season so far. Teams got to see them all last season so they won't surprise anyone with their motion offense and "exotic" defenses. No more "Mangenius" for Mangini.
Look at the Ravens! They have a 340 pound RE!! Ngata! These guys absolutely stuff up the line so that guys off the outside can come in and get pressure. Out of all the sacks against KC today, how many were from lineman? I don't think more than 1!
whatever happened to the blitz calls for RHODES?????? Is it the classic Jet mentality of not doing anything that might have had some success in the past?
The Jets haven't gotten any pressure out of the 3-4 without blitzing 7 at any point since Mangini instituted it. This just isn't going to work with the personnel in place. The Eagles used to run a 4-3 with two linebackers and a safety blitzing on almost every passing down. This was designed to get Hugh Douglas free and on the QB. They signed Jevon Kearse to fill that role when Douglas got old. It really does not work unless the defensive line brings some heat of its own. Otherwise you just wind up giving up free receptions in the now depopulated defensive backfield. The Jets would do better just to blitz one linebacker with the defensive line and drop 7 into coverage. They wouldn't get to the QB but they don't get to the QB as it is. And you'll get an INT now and then with 7 people in coverage just from the Qb getting his view blocked occasionally.
