How about a 2nd this year and a first next year. If you think Abe is going to put you over the top, it should be a late round pick 20-30.
I can't answer all the posts, I just don't have the time. However, the point about the value chart not being correct because teams value certain spots differently, well I agree. But, I don't have the Jet's FO value chart right in front of me so I had to use the next best thing I could get my hands on. It still doesn't change the fact that the 15th pick is worth WAY MORE than the 31st overall, and while the 47th is less than the 31st, obviously, the drop off isn't as great. I don't care what FO you want to use. Someone else mentioned the Falcons also shot themselves in the foot. Well yeah, no kidding. We have proven he is worth a 1st round pick, and had an agreement not been reached with Seattle, the Jets would have more leverage. This trade is a question of leverage...no doubt. The Jets have made it clear that they want to get rid of Abraham, thus relinguishing some leverage. The Falcons have also given up some too, by showing what they are willing to pay for Abraham. Hence, the first line of my post: This is a tricky situation. I am going to honest. I don't think Atlanta will acquire Abraham. This is a pissing contest and I don't think either will budge.
i think the trade should go fdown as such....Abe and our second for the Falcons first and second. We did establish what we were willing to part with from the seahawks so swapping seconds I think is the way to go
FalconFan.......it is nice to see a fan who has put forth a good bit of thinking here. I think the trade for Abe will get done. I think it will be your 2nd round pick and either your 3rd round or 4th rounder. If that is not thrown in then they may take the 2nd round pick next year as well.
Just as a comparison the last five drafts have produced the following players at #15...Generally speaking these players couldn't hold Abe's jock. The Jets are doing the right thing by staying put and demanding appropriate value. 2000- Deltha O'Neil 2001- Rod Garnder 2002- Albert Haynesworth 2003- Jerome McDougal 2004- Michael Clayton 2005- Derrick Johnson
That would be just fine. I would love it if we were able to obtain JA but if not we would simply keep our picks and fill our needs elsewhere (probably by drafting Kiwi in the 1st). Meanwhile the Jets DO have a very expensive malcontent in JA who is stuck with a team he hates which is also going to a 3-4 defense. This is the last chance the Jets will be able to get anything for him. They do NOT have, but could have the 47th pick in a very deep draft (certainly not the 15th overall) to show for this whole fiasco instead of nothing. Now what would be the smart move? Then again the Jets don't have Matt Schaub but DO have Patrick Ramsey...hoo boy... hmy: So much for 'smart moves'...
Ramsey was had for a 6th round pick...very cheap.. By Atlanta holding Schaub just shows Vick is there to sell merchandise and is not the future of the franchise... Good luck with another year of 5-19 games from Ron:beer:
2002 season- Missed ONE game due to injury @ Giants 2003 season- Missed ? of the season due to freak accident in pre-season game 2004 season- Did not miss ANY games due to injury* 2005 season- Missed ONE game due to injury vs Patriots *In 2004 he did not start in the Saints game along with several other Atlanta starters because Atlanta clinched the 2nd seed in the NFC. It was clear at that point they could not catch Philly for the 1st seed. Vick started the following week vs the Seahawks but was yanked in the meaningless game after leading the team to a scoring drive. Outside of the 2003 season, in Vick?s career as a starter, he's missed a whooping TWO games due to injury in THREE years. In case you can?t do the math, that?s less than a game per year! Now that?s not to say that Vick hasn?t had his fair share of bumps and bruises and missed some time DURING a game, but he has only missed TWO full games due to injury in the 2002, 2004, and 2005 season COMBINED.
OK now you are seeing things...Where did I question Vicks durability? I just said that the Falcons believe that Schaub is the future and the only reason Vick is the starter is to sell...
That was the philosophy the FO had under Bradway and Herm. Something is better than nothing. And the Jets became the bitches of every agent and team that they dealt with. This is about a change of philosophy and to show teams that the Jets aren't taking any crap anymore. Like I said before same thing Belicheck and Lewis did when they started. The philosophy now is give us what we are do and we will give you what you are do, be it players, teams, contracts, FAs, etc. If you don't like it, go scratch yourself in the corner.
If your reference to 5-19 games from 'Ron' isn't an allusion to his durability then pray tell what is it? Also, I wouldn't expect you to understand this since you are a Jet fan but if you had been a Falcon fan during the season Vick had the broken leg and we were subjected to gross incompetence from the backup QB position you would know full well why Schaub is so valued as an excellent insurance policy.
