In the off-season, the Jets focused on the DL. Coleman, Bowens, etc. Oh Bowens is a pass rushing threat. Oh Coleman is a major upgrade. That is the one position they focused on (even brought in Haynes and Wadsworth, though they didn't pan out). What is the Jet front office a bunch of comedians? That is by far the worst element of the team. How can you focus on a specific position, bring a million guys in to compete and have a pass rush which is absolutely embarrassing,,, still? They not only never get a sack,,, they almost never put any pressure on the QB.
In all fairness Coleman had 10 tackles, and 2 asisted tackles. Everyone else with those numbers plays off the LoS.
Coleman and Revis were the only highlights on D yesterday. Also, Coleman wasn't brought in to be a pass-rush specialist, instead, the goal was to replace Kimo I suck Often, which they did. Try pointing the finger elsewhere.
Pointing the finger at the pass rush is the first place it should be pointed. I could complete passes with the time Brady had.
The problem in my eyes is the scheme and the coaching. It couldn't be more clear that the 3-4 doesn't work. It may work against teams in the future, but it didn't against the Patriots. If you can't beat the Patriots, then you don't go to the Super Bowl. End of discussion. The Jets need to reevaluate their defensive front 7 and make a decision that will be best for the future of this defense and this team.
And I love this guy Revis. Think he's gonna be great but what exactly did he do yesterday to be classified as a highlight?
Does the fact that they barely threw to his side tell you anything? How about the sure open-field tackles. You should really think before you speak, as evidenced in this thread. And by the way I said that he and Coleman were the highlights- not that their play was highlight material- see the difference?
I have a couple of thoughts on this. First we were too conservative in sending the blitz in fear of being beat by the pass. Too often I watched as only 3 guys were rushing - you're not going to get much pressure that way. For that matter, I thought the game plan in general was way too conservative. In the first half we had two 4th and 1's around mid-field that we should have gone for. Considering we were playing a high powered offense, we should have been more aggressive on 4th and short. Playing scared or conservative will get you nothing but a loss against teams that are obviously better than you most of the time. Secondly, when we did blitz, they picked it up very well. Their protection was way better than ours. What can we do?
Revis was the surest tackler on the field yesterday. no one got away from him. every wrap up he made was on point. he got beat by Moss for his "Welcome to the NFL" but tackled him right aways.
They didn't even throw at him. And when they did, he made tackles immed. He played his @ss off. I paid special attention to him. The one time at the goal linre Brady looked his way when he was covering Moss, Brady quickly went the other way and threw it out the back of the left side of th endzone. Except for one catch Moss mad at on Revis near the goaline, he was outstanding in coverage.
Are we all in complete agreement that the original post sucked and that this thread should just implode?
If you don't notice a CB, that's a great sign. Generally, CBs are only noticed when they blow coverage or grab a pick. No QB is going to throw a pick with 6 seconds in the pocket.
In terms of the pass rush..acouple things... 1. The CS decided they'd rather leave men in coverage than blitz Brady. We were typically only rushing 3-4 guys at a time. 2. If anyone is to blame for the lack of pass rush- blame the LB's. BT, Bowens, etc.The front 3's job is to stuff the run and collapse the pocket. They arent gonna get to the QB all by themselves. Also, I thought the run D improved drastically after QTR # 1. If anyone was to blame for the struggles..i point to the LB'S. I didnt see any big time massacre's at the POA but rather LB's nowhere to be found until 10 yards downfield.
