Alio..glad to see you are back on hating nuge. Once again, you facts are wrong and I will point them out for you. It seems to be our little game. His hang time on all the kicks today was the exact same (except that the one that traveled a little farther was obviously a little longer). Get your stop watch out. He has always had hang time...which the coach's have cited over and over again. They said they just wanted some distance with that hang time. Now he has given them that. Yet you say he sucks. You say "either way, he is not a good kicker and people need to wake up to it." Could it be perhaps that he is a good kicker and you need to wake up to it? I mean..he was what 5th in the league in percentage last year? Middle of the road on kickoffs...something he has improved upon this year. Made a 54 yarder last year. Made a game winner last year. Missed one field goal after the first game last year. Could it be you are wrong? nah
I said I don't have an issue with his FGs. Don't try to change my argument to suit yours. His time in the air sucks. He kicks line drives. That does not allow coverage to get downfield. If coverage does not get downfield, they can't make the plays. This is not rocket science. The first touch happened at the 10, after the returner had already been running 18 yards. There's momentum, plus his blockers are already setting him up by the time he's getting near the opposition. Whatever. I don't need to keep arguing this. His kick offs suck. He gets no air under them. Believe it or not. Either way we give up good field position. Given that our special teams are regarded as some of the league's best, something must be causing a problem. But it couldn't be Nuge. Nah.
You keep saying his kicks are line drives but you refuse to back it up? How long is the average kickoff supposed to stay in the air? How long do nuge's stay in the air? Just because you think it is a line drive how can you be so sure? You are just that smart? Smart enough to make an argument that the guy had been running for 18 yards so he had time to set up. Well let's do the math. The defense typically sets up at the 15...that is the goal on every kickoff. I pray you knew that or I should just stop typing. So Nuge kicked it an extra 10 yards or so on that kick. So that gave the players a little extra time to set up farther downfield. So they were able to make it all the way to 10. On the average kickoff the returner will have 15-18 yards to run before contact as it goes about the goal line and they will typically make contact at the 15-18. So this was absolutely no different. The only difference was the wall was set up at the 10 because the defense had extra time to get down there. When a guy kicks it to the goal line with good height are they hitting him before the 15?? Very very very rarely. So at minimum a guy is getting 15 yards to keep running. The special teams did not perform today. So I would absolutely see if nuge is the problem. I just don't see how a logical person could make that conclusion. Then again, you arguments have nothing to do with logic. They are all about "I am right you are wrong because I said so therefore it is true."
There were several kickoffs sent towards the endzone I was in by both kickers and they seemed the same height to me. People just need something to bitch about.
The coverage wasn't outkicked. The guy should have been tackled, they missed the tackles, that's all there is to it.
Sorry but the record setting return was a result of a special teams melt down, really typical of the entire game; we were not burning on all 8 cylanders.
how can you say that the coverage was out kicked. The guy picked the ball up from his shoe strings 2 yards away from the back of the end zone. I dont care if the ball was shot with a cannon and got there in 2 seconds. Did you see the missed tackles? Did the coverage weaken when they saw the ball that deep? Did guys let up? The kick return blockers cant see how deep a kick goes...the coverage can. Not sure what you are talking about here. I could see if you meant a low long punt where the returner has room behind him to move and there is less of an attack coverage. On kick offs?
This is where you are wrong. The one that carried further actually had LESS hang time... hence Hobbs took itout.
A low long punt and a low long kickoff are the same thing. Same concept. Missed tackles? That one on the 10 you all talk about was a guy slapping him with his finger tips... he was not in position.
I do agree it was a poor kick. Enough of a line-drive that Hobbes could look upfield and determine that he could make it to the twenty without getting hit. I would like to see either another half-second of hang-time, or another two yards of distance. Still, that doesn't change the fact that Hobbes was wrong - it was poor tackling and coverage that allowed him to get past the twenty and beyond. Eight of ten returners down that ball. The ninth gets tackled between the 10 and 20. The tenth breaks a few tackles and makes a decent play of it. Unfortunately, yesterday, we got that tenth guy.
THe reason it was a TD (besides the line drive kick, and besides the missed tackles) is because the guy that had the best angle on him (I think it was #42 on the Jets) was dragged down by the shoulder pads by #84 of the Pats. The guy grabbed him with both hands and dragged him down. Watch the play again on Tivo or DVR when you get home. It happened right in front of me so first thing I did was watch the play when I got home. I think it was at about the 28 or 30 yard line.
Get out your stopwatch and you will find the hangtime was slightly longer...which would make sense for a slightly longer kick. Don't just call it a line drive without any facts. It is a simple as that.
