Vilma....The Tedy Bruschi...Of The Jets' ? Can Johnathan Vilma play the role of Tedy Bruschi in the Jets' 3-4 defense ? I believe Vilma can play that role with the Jets' & do it very well. What do you guys think ?
Well Vilma is def. the supperior athlete. I don't think his leadership is quite where TB's is (yet). and Vilma has (or will have) the football smarts of TB as he gets older.. Hell, He was calling the plays on D his rookie year. I think he will fit in very well in the 3-4.
If vilma lives up to his excpectations (which I thin he will or even exceed) he will be better then what bruschi was for the pats.
Donnie Edwards was not affected going into a 3-4 defense with San Diego despite only being 227 pounds... Vilma has a nose for the ball, he'll make his plays witnout a doubt.
If I remember correctly, the Pats were hot after Vilma in the 2004 draft. That's part of the reason the Jets sent up their pick with 14:59 still on the clock and didn't consider trading down. So, if rumors are to be believed, the Pats must have thought he could play in their scheme, which is soon to be ours.
Thats an great comparison to Donnie Edwards NYJEcko151. But I guess you could also say that the Chargers have the best nose tackle in the league Jamal Willliams. But I totally agree with what you said earlier. All we have to do now is find our Jamal Williams. Paging Gabe Watson...
As far as on the field, Vilma can learn to play a 3/4 slot with a little time. You have to remember that Bruschi has an advantage over Vilma as a 3/4 linebacker. He was a DE in college and had to learn to fight off much bigger blockers who were right up in his face. That helps a lot inside as you have to learn not to take on the blocks of guards running at you directly but to slide off of them to stay on your feet and keep a clear view of the play in front of you. Vilma is talented enough to adjust and will be fine in a 3/4. As far as off the field and the level of maturity, I lost a lot of respect for Vilma last year when he was parading around saying that the Jets were going to the Super Bowl and the Patriots were a million to one shot to repeat. Most players realize that that kind of chest thumping ends up making you look foolish in the end but some have to learn the hard way. Vilma's a great football player so hopefully he matures as he gets older but Bruschi has never shot his mouth off from the time he first stepped on the field in NE.
But then again teddy makes plays on the field and saves a whole litter of puppies from a burning car, and goes back to get their toys...god i wish he was my dad
I forgot about vilma speaking so many languages. He has to be some sort of genius to be able to speek somany languages and have above a 3.5 as a finance major.

Dont ever mention those two in the same sentence again. I hate Ted with a passion. Hugs and kisses to Vilma
you kidding me? Tedy Bruschi is a God among Men. One time after intercepting a Peyton Manning pass, he ran into the endzone and into the stand and performed the heimlich manuever saving an old lady who was choking on a partially-digested hotdog. While being asked about it in his postgame interview, he said "Excuse me" - and proceeded to run outside and save a pair of ten year old twins from a burning building. Vilma is a mere mortal compared to the superior God-Like Bruschi and will never be in the same catagory.
