Jake Bender LG A lot of times during TC, before, during and after the plays, I would survey the field just to see who was in, so I could keep track of who was getting reps with which unit. It is impossible to watch everything at once, so i cant say i studied bender. But the times I did see Bender, he looked like he was learning and thinking about what he was doing, more than reacting and playing on instinct. He was soaking up what the coaches were telling him; that's what TC for a rookie is for. They started him at out at RT, but moved him to LG for two reasons that I can tell: -the LG situation -he was having trouble with the speed coming off the edge. To my untrained eye, I saw how 2d team DEs were able to take an angle on him at RT and create a passrushing advantage on him that was hard to overcome. He didnt show the quick first move that could nullify that advantage. Now, in some ways, playing at guard requires even more quickness than at tackle, because there is less space the DT has to cover, and the guard's first move and point of attack contact are crucial. So i think, imo that when I watch him tonite, I watch how quickly he comes out of the gate at the snap, especially when he has to pull or trap. We also have to watch how quickly he gets into the pass blocking stance at the snap. The first split section of the play is going to go a long way to determining his success or not. As a rookie it is harder to overcome an early mistake on the play- vets understand how to recover during the play. It should be interesting, but I expect they are going to keep the blocking schemes pretty vanilla. I also expect to see a lot of Clarke too, unless he is so far in the doghouse that he needs a map to get out. Right DE I expect Kenyon to start, but I also want to see how Haynes and Hicks do. It is still early, and no one has a stranglehold on the position for the season yet.
Definately the line and hooefully we can see a bit of Revis...but more so i want Penny to drive it down their throats....i know that was three....sorry.....
The field to make sure no carts come onto it. Darrelle Revis. ____________ I would like to see the Jets alternate the QBs. Let Pennington get the first and third drives (and maybe 5th drive) and give Clemens the 2nd and 4th drives (and maybe 6th drive). That way each QB gets a chance with 1st team Jets and Giants on the field. It'd be a smart plan, methinks.
The cameras usually follow the LOS action unless the ball is thrown downfield, at which time you can watch the DBs. Revis will disappear out of the picture on pass plays until the ball is in the air, and if its to his side.
I was psyched when I saw Revis at tc, and watched him a lot his first practice. But for those of you who havent seen him yet in a Jets uni, it will be exciting. I'm tellin you, this guy's gonna be a baller.
I dont watch annoying sh1t on TV. That's what my remote is for I'll tell you something else I'll do tonite is to listen to the radio call while I watch it on tv. First of all, the announcers are much better on the radio, and also, there is a two-three second delay, so by listening to the radio call, I know where the play is going and can follow it along ahead of time. It's good when you want to really analyze. I know most people hate doing it and wont let me listen and watch if they are over- but I'll be watching it by myself tonite. If you can get the game on radio, you should try it.
I'm not sure you know what I was saying. I'm a WVU fan and in the Pitt-WVU games (The Backyard Brawl), Revis was the only standout player for the Panthers. I saw the guy play a lot in college and wanted the Jets to draft him.
Ahhh, my bad. Yep. Leon was "the enemy" when FSU played Miami, but Bowden misused him, so he wasnt much of a factor in those games. Got it now!
I agree that these are two to watch...and yes, haynes/Hicks too. I think Bender is gonna be a crushing force on the run!
