One of my favorite quotes is "Reticence is the seal of capacity." If that is true then our FO is on the right track with their tight-lipped ways. However, the last week and half has been brutal for an obsessed Jets fan.

Do you think that such secrecy benefits the team in any way? Would you rather have a FO and CS that allows for greater dissimenation of information on injuries, contracts and the like?

    Please discuss.

I like the way they run things. I know the Belichick and Patriot comparisons are getting old, but look at the way they do things. They rarely disclose things. And the less teams know about a players injury, means the more time they have to spend gameplanning for if that player is going to play, and if he isn't going to play. That gives teams two things to think about right before gametime. Obviously as a fan, it gets to be monotonous hearing Mangini mention the words "strong and hardworking" about every single player he talks about. But it's better then having Herm practically blab the damn game plan at press conferences.

I think being tight-lipped about injuries forces the other team to prepare for a player that may not end up playing and that may help the team. Mangini said that he wants the other team to prepare for the possibility that Brad Smith may be in on a trick play and that takes time away from preparing for everything else. As competitive as the NFL is, you try to get every little advantage that you can. Think of how many games would have had a different final score had it not been for a little detail that the coaches or a player overlooked.

I think the Jets' FO and CS know what they're doing and I love the competitiveness they've brought to the team and NY, but how many heart attacks had to occur, before we found out that the injury to Jones is not that bad?

They've been doing just fine so far, so I am not one to critisize them. I always spell that word, and nedeassary wrong. Oh well.

Sure, it's frustrating as a Jets fan to be left guessing, and even more so if you are a FF addict like I am, but it works. Mangini is concerned about one thing.... making opponenets have to do extra prep work when the Jets are next on the schedule. Who is healthy, who will play....? The more things opponents have to prepare for, the less prepared they will be.

LOL... I meant necassary... or neecassary... or... well, I can't spell that word.

While it may get frustrating for a fan, I think we are better off with this than the Herm style where he spends more time talking to the media than talking to his players

reticence is the seal of capacity, I like it, and that's all I have to say about that.

New York has, in general, savvy fans. We don't need our coach to lay it out for us, we can figure it out for ourselves. Interesting to think about, though: would Mangini work as well in a market like Jacksonville or even San Francisco? I think in some markets the fan base needs to be reassured by their coach, they, like the players, feed off him and while I think the team feeds off Mangini, we certainly don't.
