Falcons | Abraham intent on playing in Atlanta
    Sun, 19 Mar 2006 19:34:46 -0800

Steve Wyche, of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports New York Jets franchise free agent DE John Abraham is intent on playing for the Atlanta Falcons, his agent, Tony Agnone, confirmed Sunday, March 19. The contract agreement he reached Friday, March 17, with Atlanta and his word are his bond. The Jets have thwarted Abraham's relocation by treating the Falcons' trade offer of a second-round draft pick as insufficient. Instead, the Jets have agreed to trade him to the Seattle Seahawks for a first-round draft choice, and that decision has left Abraham "not happy," according to Agnone. In a brief e-mail to the Journal-Constitution, Agnone said there had been no developments in the saga over the weekend. Though things were quiet over the weekend, the Falcons confirmed talks are expected to resume as soon as Monday, March 20.

Falcons can offer more overall value

If the Jets accepted 31st value(600) then the Falcons 47th(430) and say next years 2nd or 3rd wouldn't do it?

I know the Jets are after the 15th but they should've never accepted the 31st from the Seahawks if they wanted 15th. The 15t is double the value of the 31st. By comparrison the 47th and another pick first day pick easily tops that. Heck, even if we offered this years 2nd and next years 2nd thats still 700 value at WORST the Jets could wind up getting.

I think the jets front office was just using seattle to get McKay to panic and offer more than Abraham is worth. But unfortunately for them, they're dealing with one of the best general managers in the league.

They Jets have overplayed their hand. If they don't accept the value of a 2nd/3rd this year or 2nd/2nd combo then I don't know what else to say but: You shouldn't have accepted the Seahawks offer.

You don't understand..like you guys covet your next safety, we covet our next center/guard who might not be available our second round much less your second round....you want Abe so much...you gotta step up and acknowledge that we still own him and he's worth a 1st...otherwise we keep him and that might actually be better for us...don't get me wrong...my wife's an Atlanta fan and I tell her the same thing

Not saying Atlanta will give up #15. But Abraham is better than anyone on the board at 15, anyone.

Of course they're interested. He's in the prime of his career and is a game-breaker.

Abraham, while better than anyone on the board at #15, is still costing a ton more money wise than anyone at #15 also.

Atlanta is basically the only team he can go to right now.

He won't remain a Jet. No matter how much the fans want him to or not. He'll sign the tender after June if they don't make the trade by next Friday.

Then he'll sit on the bench all year getting paid 8 million.

The bottom line is the Jets should've given this guy a long term deal like they promised. He hates the Jets now.

PS: What about injury concerns? Paying that much money for a player with injury concerns AND the 15th overall pick, even though they settled for the 31st. You guys are nutts.

LOL do you really think he'll be getting paid $8 million sitting on the bench if he just signs? Come on, you should know better than this.

I think the Falcon fans have a huge misconception in their evaluation of what is going on.

The Jets did not value John Abraham as worth the 31st pick in the draft. That is CURRENTLY the best offer on the table, and one that they are willing to accept. It is up to the Falcons to better that offer if they are interested in obtaining John Abraham's services this year. Also, if the Falcons do offer better than the #31 overall, Seattle would have an opportunity to best that offer. I can't see either team offering more than the #15 overall, which is why ATL has the upper hand.

If I'm the Jets, I'd be happy with Abe and 3rd rd pick for their #15 overall. Then I'd throw it back to Seattle to see if they up their offer. If not, Abe is gone to Atlanta.

I'd rather have #15 overall then a disgruntled Abraham and a 3rd rd pick. BUT, I'd rather have a disgruntled Abraham than #47 overall. Right now, Atlanta has to surpass Seattle's offer of the #31 overall, or else it doesn't even matter if they have a contract settled.

It was before the Divisional round actually...

But i'll side with Abraham on that one since Shaun Ellis and other teammates said he could not run full speed and could only run straight, how would that benefit us? And the defense played great that game considering it was down 10-0 early.

They wouldn't have to franchise him if he has a contract.:drunk:

People need to take that little value chart, turn it sideways and shove it up Mike Vick's cornshoot. That is a bunch of bull.... No way a 2nd and a 3rd is as valuable as a 1st. I'm glad the Jets FO is not budging.
