Herm on HBO Did you see Herm on HBO. Instead of taking a plane with the team, this bozo drives 8 hrs. to Wisc. by himself because that's what he did as a scout. Then when he arrives instead of resting or preparing for camp, this moron plays arts and crafts and makes a welcome KC chiefs poster with all these pretty colors. When the players arrive he greeets them with the stupid poster, they just ignore him its so pathetic. Ty Law eventually throws it on the ground and walks away. Them they have a scene of him arguing with some player about what floor he sleeps on. Could you imagine Mangini wasting 10-12 hrs. doing this. I am so glad this clown is not our coach. He is a ncie man, a good motivator, but a self promoter and a ham
The part I really rolled my eyes at was his first meeting with the new coaches. I can understand using the 'sermon and preaching' approach with players... MAYBE, but these were grown men, all professionals, who were most likely expecting a well thought out plan for their approach to training camp. Instead, they got the same 'college church sermon' as the players might get at halftime. You can almost see how uncomfortable some of them were. It was like : (coach):'Herm, are we gonna be focusing mainly on shoring up the O-lines hand techniques in the morning sessions? Or do you think we need more sled work initially?' Herm: 'Theres only one reason we're here (Looks around as if waiting for an answer to a question he never asked)... and thats to win a trophy. That's why we're here (he says almost defiantly and with a pleading tone to his voice). I'll see you men tomorrow.' Yeeeeesh.
I actually DVR'd this crap. I'm going to try to check it out this weekend. Is it an ongoing series, or a one-shot deal? Poor Herm. He's such a tool, and he doesn't even realize it.
I realize the mistakes Herm makes is usually detrimental to the whole team; in all honesty I don't think it's entirely his fault. I think it's partly on the owners who have actually brought him in as a head coach. I don't think Herm should be a head coach. He's a players guy and he always has a solid rapport with his players. But I think Herm should be a secondary / defensive backs coach and I think he would do quite well. He's proven himself in previous cities with that position and I think he's better suited to manage a position and not an entire team, staff, game clock, or any other role larger than a group of defensive players.
The show was actually pretty good. I enjoyed it. I didn't really pay attention to the herm aspect, but more just life during NFL training camp and i thought it was pretty cool.
I didn't see the show but, based on the description of the goings on, it's outrageous. And to think we actually acquired Leon Washington for this tool. That has to go down in history as the best sports deal of the century. The Chiefs should have demanded a 4th Round from us for taking Herm off our hands!
Seriously, you've got to feel a little something for those poor Chiefs fans. In the immortal words of Marlon Brando in On The Waterfront: "That team could have been somebody!"
I also really enjoyed the show, but how could you not notice Herm. It was like the Herm Edwards happy hour. They even opened up the show with him running stairs. I was waiting for the Rocky Music. You must be a Herm guy?
Herm's most precious moments have to be his press conferences though. Way back during the Vietnam War, reporters used to make fun of what they called the "Five O'Clock Follies," in which Generals would get up on the podium and spew out canned optimism no mater what was really happening in the field. In fact, it often contradicted the facts. But that didn't matter. Why let facts get in the way of good PR? When I think back to some of Herm's microphone manipulations, it's hysterical some of the things that went on. Somebody really needs to put together some video clips... better than watching Saturday Night Live...
