Thanks Yis, didn't know that.... here is one reference.... Ken Berger of Newsday writes that franchised DE John Abraham will lose his right to negotiate with other teams in two weeks. (Ken, maybe you should quit asking Bob Glauber questions about the CBA.) I think that's good enough, and proves I wasn't pulling this stuff out of... well, you know!
The funny thing is that the Atlanta contract appears to be for less than 16 million, what is what he turned down. Its also funny that he wants to go to a team that has no shot at the SB, for a team that is top 5 in Vegas to return. I guess he just doesn't like playoff games.
A little twist to the whole Abe situation?? Ok....I don't know who this Atlanta GM thinks he is but you can't have your cake and eat it to. I wanted to throw something out there and see what you guys thought.....Would you do this... To Falcons: John Abraham To Jets: 2nd rounder in '06 and 2nd rounder in '07 but could turn into Atlanta's 1st rounder upon player performance.... I think I would do that.
JetsIn2004 is the only sensible person regarding John Abraham. He should not be portrayed as a villian. I've documented why plenty of times.
Do you know how many other people are posting this same idea, and if your gonna post an idea try to put it in an existing thread if possible.
'He doesn't have Ellis to help him on that line anymore" WHAT?! It's the other way around, buddy. Ellis is invisible when Abraham is hurt. Abraham has never had to count on Ellis being productive in order to succeed. Ellis didn't become a good DE until 2003 and by then Abraham had already had three very good seasons. Ellis was AWFUL this year and Abraham produced arguably his best season ever. Stop being dumb.
I know I read it, am just saying there are other threads already saying trade ideas why didn't he just post his idea there or do you think all of your ideas deserve its on thread?
i know.... i was just trying to justify him. I agree that it should have been posted in the pre-existing abe threads
I know how you feel HW and I feel the same, but just so you know, that's what the Falcons FO is counting on ... they are counting on the Jets FO just tossing up their hands in frustration and selling low So we can feel that way ... it's okay to feel that way ... but we better not act on that feeling
It's very funny that at least as many comments in this thread have been about the avatar as have been about Abe. I guess many people hoped that the landslide victory for the "worst avatar of 2005" award might have effected a change, but no such luck. Anyway, I am also in principle perfectly fine with ending up signing Abe long term (assuming a reasonable contract), but since there hasn't even been a whisper of that, I'd be surprised if it happened. And if the Jets were thinking that at all, it was not a good idea to let him go on his world tour looking for a contract before trying to work that out.
Not that I think that'd be a good trade, but I think Duckett is alot better than he is getting credit for. This is a guy who has alot of power, can be a great workhorse and doesnt fumble. He is more than capable of being a 1000 yard back, and if you supply him w/ a speedy 3rd down back to compliment him, you can have a very good rushing attack. Duckett has suffered from playing for a team that doesnt fit his running style. Atlanta emphasizes speed in all facets and that's evident in their running game by their zone blocking scheme. It is no surprise that Duckett would not shine in such a situation. But if you give him a man-up blocking scheme, a quality full back, and like I mentioned earlier, a complimentary speed back, he can be very productive. Put him on the steelers, seahawks or Panthers and he's pro bowl calibur.
Yes I'm the one being dumb. What were Abe's numbers in 2003? Oh yea he played 7 games fool. Obviously Ellis must have been getting at least some of those sacks with someone else at the opposite DE position. Listen penny, I agree with most of ur posts but to say Abraham hasn't been greatly helped by having another pro bowl DE at the other side of the line is assenine. Stop being condescending and get the facts. Is Abraham the better DE? Of course! Is he also inconsistent and injury prone? Absolutely! Does Atlanta have a guy like Ellis at the other side to take the pressure of Abraham. No way. Abraham's numbers will take a dip in Atl this year.
In the last five games of this past season, when his team (which went 1-4 in that playoff push) needed him most, Duckett rushed 39 times for a grand total of 43 yards. So when the $ was on the line, he produced 1.1 yards per carry. Thanks but no thanks.
