from the transcript of mangini's Press Conference sunday...

"A guy that I've been very happy with here early on is a guy that I was really happy with early on in training camp last year, Sione Pouha. Last year at this time he had taken the off‑season program and had really transformed his body, looked totally different over the course of the few months that he was working, came out, was having a really good camp before he unfortunately got injured. Now he's maintained that fitness, continued to improve his body and he's really taking to the coaching and doing a lot of good things. I think he's emerging and I'm happy with that."

Cimini dismissed the comments as Mangini's attempts to steer questions toward Pouha and away from less pleasant issues, but Cimini is a tool...whatever.

My question is to those who have been out to camp: Anybody noticed anything special about Pouha?

Glad to hear he's on the up and up. If I remember correctly, he was actually making some noise and turning heads last year in practices as well. Unfortunately, we never got to see the results of his efforts due to injury. Hopefully, he can stay healthy this year...even though he didn't play much throughout his career, he's getting up there in age.

yea true, but he has not played. Wasn't he like 26 when he was drafted out of college?

  5. His emergence is one of the most critical pieces of this offseason. If he presents himself as a starting caliber NT...we open up a WHOLE bunch of options defensively..

Pouha if you can be our true NT, you will be my hero. That would be a good rotation. Ellis, Pouha, Robertson, Coleman.

even though he has not played he is naturally going to slow down as he gets closer to 30 and surpasses it. You can't really keep him based on potential this year because of his age. Instead we should only keep him if he can be a solid contributer to the team

Now, I know I'm one fo the only people on here who think DRob is going to be great at NT this year, I know that, but let's say for a minute that we all know he will be, then what does Pouha give us? Do we have an NT rotation? Do we move DRob to end? Pouha to end? play more 4-3? I don't know.

I would think that they would rotate Drob and Pouha at NT, have them both play DT in the 4-3 sets, and a little bit of Pouha at NT and Drob at DE. Thats my guess because those options would give us the most flexibility.
