I don't see any reason why our front office would let this be known at this point. Leinart hasn't even had his pro day. To let it be known that we are interested in trading up from 4 to 2 this early is bs. I don't like Leinart because the way he throws the ball is too deliberate. If we took him at 4 I could deal with that, but no chance in hell I would trade up to 2 to get him.
As a Saints fan we will take your 1st and 3rd this year and your 1st and 5th next year just like the Giants gave San Diego. That is more than what I would have expected. BTW that weak draft class got San Diego Shawn Merriman who went to the Pro Bowl his rookie year. I'm pretty sure if the deal gets done it will be for the 2nd and 3rd rounder this year or 2nd this year and 3rd and 4th next.
Send John Abraham to the Saints along with this year's 1st and next year's 3rd. If he wants to be down South, send his ass to the DEEP South. Can he swim?
That is true, there were definitely a few good players in that draft, but if you want to take a look at it really, towards the end of the first round there were players drafted that would have been mid-late 2nd round picks compared to this draft and the one that Eli/Rivers was in.
All you need to know about what the Jets will do in the draft is this: by not jumping into the FA market with two feet, the Jets are revealing to everybody that they are going to build this team through the draft. So, they want to hoard draft picks, not piss them away. They will not be packaging picks to move up two spots in order to pick up a player that they may not be in love with or that could even fall to them at 4 (unlikely, but possible). I love the fact that the talk is going on about a move up, because if further clouds what the Jets' true intentions are. If you look at the Pats, the cornerstone of their defense is Richard Seymour. Brusci and Harrison get all the fanfare, but that defense is built around Seymour. So Tangini will draft Mario Williams at 4. They are not going to let the best defensive player in the draft slip by them. They will build the O-line through the draft, but lower down. At quarterback, I think they have a wait and see on Chad and Ramsey. I would say at this point in his career, Ramsey is where Brees was. So what can Schott do to get him on the right path?
so it is your position that a player only knows how to win if he NEVER loses, or that a player struggles if he doesn't complete 100% of his passes. I don't know what game you watched, but Leinart was pretty damn good in the Rose Bowl.
take your trade and shove it! just playing lol sorry if our team did this we'd deserve to suck for a very long time
I agree with this assessment although I think Leinert will be a fine pro QB. This rumor does not ring true to me. No trading up for us; too many holes to fill. We may trade down, which makes much more sense. The thought in another thread of swapping with Oakland and picking up Porter makes sense to me. We'd still get an impact player at 9.
No Trade Up Since we got Ramsey, I can't see us trading up for a QB. Thats too much money in one position. Getting Ramsey tells me that we're not looking QB in this draft.
You can kiss my . I agree with you guys that want to trade down. There is just way to much talent to pass on. I also did a lot of homework on the picks and believe it or not the guys that go in the 11-20 picks in the draft tend to do just as well as the guys that go 1-10. There also tends to be a lot less busts. If I were the jets I would trade down, I hope they dont trade down, but I think it is what they will do. In case any of you are interested here is some stuff that I put together regarding the draft and where the most productive players have been picked. http://saintsreport.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=196872 As far as the Saints go, I would trade down as many times possible to gain picks. I would love to move down with the Jets or Oakland then move down again with the Vikings.
Totally agree with most of your post here. This "the Jets will draft a QB" mentality is not a lock. I have said it before..and will say it again...I would be shocked if the first pick ever from these guys is a "potential" qb of the future. By the time this guy is ready...the jury will already be in on EM/MT. Getting a solid QB can be done through free agency on a proven guy in the league already. They will throw crap up against the wall this year between Pennington and Ramsey. If it doesnt stick...they will get their qb next year. They will use this pick to make a potentially decent defense good again. The pick of Williams makes sense. If this front office was so sold on any of the Qb's in this draft...you would never have heard the name Schuab being throw around. All of these guys are risky business...and past history has taught us that only one of the three will be a franchise QB. Past history has also taught us that it will probably not be the one everyone thinks it will be. Hate those odds. No thanks.
We have so many holes it really doesn't matter who we get. As of right now we can't even field a dime defense or short yardage offense. We have 0 centers, 2 guards and 3 tackles. Of those two are capable starters if you include Mayberry (Mayberry was benched last year).
Though my question is look at what the Giants gave up and could've had without trading (i.e. Ben who's looked better then Eli so far, and Rivers who's still unknown). Plus you have to add in the players they would've been able to get with the picks they gave up. Here we know if we sit where we are that most likely Leinart isn't going to Houston, may not even go to New Orleans, nobody knows about Tenn, and then could fall to us without us doing a thing. Even if he didn't we're pretty much guaranteed Young and/or Cutler. The question to me is whether or not there is that much of a difference between those three guys to warrant giving up any picks? Hell Ramsey was a #1 pick and looked to have some potential in 2003 until Gibbs shot his confidence by trading with Brunell because Gibbs likes veteran QBs.
I would not mind trading our first this year and our second rounder for the 2 overall, then trading ABe to the seahawks for 31 overall. However we cannot trade our second and third to move up two lousy spots in this deep a draft. Even if it is for a great QB in Leinart, who wants to be a Jet. I will take 4 overall and 35 overall for him...but not 4 overall 35 overall and 67 overall.
