they passed on cutler last year, and he starts for the broncos. if not for sf, cutler would have made the playoffs and trent green would have sat home.
if you're going to use the preseason as criterion, Clemens actually played pretty well last preseason -- which would then provide no reason for him to be on his way out. cheers
Never in a million years! The guy isnt even fully through re-hab and Iv never seen a quarter back go from a grade a caliber starter to a fumbling waste of feild turf. no way. thats why they call it a rumor.
It is threads like these that redefine the nonsense of the off season. Just when you thought it could not get more laughable. Bravo! :breakdance:
When I read that I thought maybe he originally wanted starter money but has since lowered his expectations....if he thinks he can get starter money right now, he is dreaming...
Anybody who thinks they have seen enough of KC as a pro to predict his ultimate ability to succeed in the NFL is being foolish. There simply is not enough of a body of work to serve as conclusive evidence. You would formulate an opinion from a couple of plays in mop-up duty? Silly. You would forulate an opinion on a few preseason quarters? Sillier. Let the guy develop, let him get a chance to play a few games, THEN we can begin to assess his chances for success. Before that happens, no one knows beyond blind conjecture.
In 97 Vinny Testeverde at the age of 34 had a terrible year for Baltimore and at 34 was widely considered washed up. The Jets were pretty much committed to Glen Foley a nice QB with a lot of guts and nice intangibles who was highly injury prone. Testeverde surrounded by good weapons with a great coaching staff arguably had the best year of any QB in Jets history in 98. Even the most ardent Chad fan has to recognize that he has one season where he completed a full season and even last year there were times his arm looked at best tired. Culpepper, when healthy is an enourmsly talented player, the Jets have a highly disciplined staff and some good weapons. I'm not saying they should or shouldn't get Culpepper but the comparrison to Testeverde where the Jets effectively struck lightning in a bottle can be made.
Let midget hands and his bad knee sign with another team and average over a fumble a game for them. As far as Clemens goes the guy is in second year, how can anybody besides the coaching staff have an informed opinion on him is beyond me. We haven't seen enough of him.
All true. The prospect of a healthy Culpepper on top of his game would open up this offense to the point where opposing teams would be forced to pick there poison. The thing to remember here is that the Dolphins....the Miami Dolphins...let this guy walk. They did it after they picked up Trent Green. I know Cameron had his ties to Green and all, but damn thats rough. The guy threw almost 40 TD's just 3 seasons ago and now he's released by the Dolphins. Then again, that same Dolphins team passed on Quinn to get a special teamer. It's very possible that they just have piss poor judgment at evaluating the position. Or it could be the complete opposite. Culpepper will land somewhere, but I still don't think it will be the Jets. Things would sure get interesting if he did suit up in green and white though.
If nothing else, Culpepper would create quality depth and serious competition. However, if he is looking for starter money, I strongly doubt Tannenbaum would do more than drive up his price as he tends to be very frugal.
Clemens is the future, Donte is the past, and way past his sub-prime prime. Donte has no "touch" on the ball, and has NEVER been mistaken for accurate. Donte and Chad could not be anymore "opposites". The only reason to bring Donte in is to give the receivers a taste of what a strong armed QB with no touch or accuracy is like to play for. Oh wait, they already had Ramsey. Never mind.
Ill gives you the Vinny comparison but he also put up good totals for Baltimore in a loosing effort back to back years. He did have a better overall total TD' 29-7 for the Jets and 36 TD's one year for Baltimore (They went 8-8). As soon as Culpepper lost his tall receivers that could run under the ball or out muscle the defender he was a statue out there and fumbled the ball away like he had KY on his hands. Then his injuries occurred and he has never been the same. It’s just my opinion but he's damaged good's. Atlanta is his likely destination now that it’s apparent the Vick is going to the pokey or will be cut or released (Which ever cost the falcons less). Chad on the other hand is back to form. Yes I know he throws duck's but I feel a lot safer with him then a Quarter back who can throw 80 yard's but makes terrible decisions and looses the ball every 15th play of a game. Ids rather have Jay Fielder back as a back up then Culpepper!
Fuck Cutler...for whatever reason the message boards for Denver have been blowing up talking about Cutler and possibly winning MVP; it usually comes crashing down when a realist steps in and brings everybody down to earth. For Culpepper, it really doesn't make sense for the JETS. his knees have him as mobile as Chad. The KY comment was right on with the way he maintains control of the ball, and we have Clemens at 2 who will eventually need to step in if something bad were to happen for pure experience. Dwight and Chatham are also on the PUP list...if I am late with that, sorry. If not, I told you so.
