    I didn't take an angle.

He said , basically, Al Davis doesn't trade players for picks.
I simply pointed out a very recent example. i din't need to mention the others picks as well to make my point.

    I love sarcasm..when its appropriate.
Just think you misunderstood what I wrote.

I guess by your sarcasm you did.

the jolley trade was shit, considering he did nothing for us except drop passes...and why are we even talking about porter...did anyone have a source to this rumor. i think the jets FO is alittle busy handling something else having to do with someone called john abraham

I thought it was fair. When you work out the values of each pick, Jolley comes out equivalent to a 3rd rounder. He had some disappointments and some flashes, but overall I think he gave us 3rd round production. He was our 3rd most productive receiver after Coles and JMac. And we also got Nugent, Rhodes, and Houston out of that trade.

First of all, we got Jolley, the Nugent pick and the Houston pick. Kerry Rhodes was not part of that trade.
Secondly, this trade was done to fill our tight end need. Doug Jolley had progressively worse years each of his 3 years in Oakland and they were dieing to get rid of him. He is hardly the answer. And don't tell me about "values". He played like a bad free agent last year.
Nugent was an average kicker at best..and average kickers are all over the NFL.
And Houston is a nice extra body..special teamer. nothing special.

And in case you didnt notice, we could have picked Heath Miller with that #1 pick we traded.
Heath Miller will be an All-Pro in his career, I guarantee it.
Doug Jolley's best season was 32 catches. Miller had 39 in his first year.
Miller had 6 TDs in his rookie year. Jolley has 6 TDs in his ENTIRE career.

This was a disasterous trade and one of the many, many reason Bradway is no longer around..Thank God!

Not for the money he's making. If this trade goes down look for McCareins to be in a new uniform next year.

Actually, we used one of the picks to move up and draft Rhodes.

You're going to base Nugent's entire future career on his rookie year? That won't work, especially with mercurial players like kickers.

I'll agree with you about Houston.

As for Jolley, I think last year's offense (I can barely call it one) made everyone in it look worse than they are, and I'd give Jolley one more year before condemning him.
Miller had the fortune of being drafted by a Super Bowl winning team. So right off the bat, he was put in a position to succeed. Jolley was drafted by a SB losing team, followed by that team's collapse for 2 years, then 1 year with our collapsing team. Had we drafted Heath Miller, he wouldn't have fared much differently than Doug Jolley, and we'd be no better for it.

Hey, I'm just happy to have an intelligent debate that doesn't degenerate into a flame-war, which is hard do to during the offseason.

It costs more to cut him than to keep him.

NO Raiders don't want to trade up for the QB(not happening) Most likely if Raiders trade J Porter to Jets, he would be in package for J abraham.
IF Saints trade it most likely will be Porter + Raiders 7 pick in draft for Saints second pick in draft. (maybe you see Jets trading up with Raiders for number 2 pick in draft. Get QB or Dbricksaw ferguson.
Also J Porter could be traded to a number of teams for a number 1(We know the teams that need a WR and how bad this Wr draft class is. Maybe Miami ?
Maybe they than use that pick for abraham.

Here the Deal with J Porter contract. Raiders cut him they take a 6 million cap hit(signing bonus) but J Porter on the books for 4 million this year. Lets see 6 million dollar cap hit - 4 million dollars he schedule to make this year = 2 millon dollar cap hit. Very doable

Raiders are loaded at WR and could affordto lose porter. D Gabriel 6'2 215
would be number 2(alot of teams have asked about him) J Morant 6'4 219 was Raiders best Wr in preseason (hes ready) C Francis - 5'10 195 was fasest player in 2003 draft. A whitted- one fastest guys in the Nfl R Curry- coming back from second achilles tear in his leg and raiders can let him rehab slowly(Raiders are smart they IR for season)

If you had taken the time to read the ENTIRE thread you would know that no one was saying that the trade was the #1 for ONLY Jolley. That comment was in response to a post asking when the last time Al Davis traded a player for a pick. I did not feel it necessary to rehash the whole trade in order to answer his question.
    And good morning to you.

Personally I think that Jolly is getting a raw deal from you. Your talking about a TE playing under Herm Edwards. When was ANY TE under Herms tenure thrown the ball with any sort of regularity.

Jolly made plays last year when givin the chance. Now if you want to attack his blocking ... have at it ... and trust me I won't defend him in any way there.

Check Bakers stats from last year ... and check Jolleys. Jets had the TE's in the gameplan in 3 or 4 games last year .... rest of the time they were dump off options.

I am going to wait and see how Jolly plays this year before labling that trade a disaster. And Nuget will be fine I believe (pray). And if Curtis doesn't last the year again we better hope Houstan is more than a body.

Baker>>>Jolley by a wide margin.. baker has then potential to become the full package he stretch the field and made some tough catchs this year..jets really need to bring him back
