Titans fan, here.... Rumors are running rampant about Ty Law possibly coming to Tennessee, but I'm wondering what the Jets' Nation thinks about him. It's my understanding that there are two schools of thought on Ty Law: the people that look at the statistics, and the people who have actually watched him play. Obviously, he led the league in INT's and went to the Pro Bowl, but I understand that he got torched on a regular basis and drew a lot of flags. So what's the real story?
He came off a fractured foot and did no conditioning work last off season and little until the season started. He had problems early on, lots of flags because of the Ty Law rule. He played well after mid season and deserved his Pro Bowl selection. With an off season of training and conditioning he will be a terrific pickup for any team that signs him.
yep ,torched early. the pics are soooooo misleading, 3/4 of them were thrown right to him. he sucked, one time LT made him sit down on his ass, i know its LT but still.
Never saw a guy get more penalties in my life. He did improve as the season went on - but the penalties were ridiculous.
yea he drew alot of flags, also missed sum tackles(such as the move LT put on him), but overal, hes a decent CB
I remember we had some big plays called back because there was a flag on his side. but he did improve.
9/10 INT's he had were thrown right to him or deflected right to him. The only INT that he made a play on was when he picked off BRady and returned it to the house.
He was a little overweight, too. He's still a decent corner, but the picks made him look like he played better than he did. What's his asking price?
He was a beast last year. His picks are certainly misleading, but he took a WR out of the game...He would be a good addition to the Titans...He isn't a good leader and draws penalties.
He is old, definately lost a step, too many flags, and 1 real pick. Good luck with the clubhouse cancer.
He isn't as good as his stats may indicate. He's clearly lost a step from his previous glory days. However, he still is a solid starter and can play at a high level. He gets burned abit because he gambles too much. Since he isn't as fast as he used to be, he has to rely on his instincts to jump on plays. Sometimes he guesses right, sometimes he guess wrong. The 10 picks is misleading as most of them came during garbage time, or when QBs practically threw it up in the air for anyone. Also, it's worth mentioning that he's a Grade A 'asshole'. He isn't a team player (skipped meetings and practices), and didn't mentor the younger players like he was suppose to. If the Titans get him, I hope you guys have better luck with him than we did. Oh yeah, make sure you give him a hefty contract too, so he can finally feed his family. Don't want them to starve on that 10 mill a year or anything.
Good #1 cornerback, but not worth the money he wants. You guys, being a young rebuilding team like us, would be better served bringing in some youth to develop than Ty Law.
Very good info...exactly the kind of informed opinions I was hoping for. Keep 'em coming! Actually, we've already got some solid talent on the roster, in the form of two talented rookie CB's. (Pacman Jones and Reynaldo Hill). Both players had ups and downs throughout the season...very good at times, and very bad at others....but both players showed a lot of potential, and have the tools to be solid players for a long time. The problem is, our veteran DB's absolutely stunk last year. The veteran leadership they anticipated simply never materialized, and the veteran players on-field performance was nothing short of embarrassing. GM Floyd Reese has mentioned getting an accomplished veteran DB to become a mentor to the younger players... and on the surface, Ty Law would be a perfect candidate. But after seeing your responses, it appears that while Law can still be a solid presence on the field, it is more than negated by his locker room issues. (And believe me...after the ongoing soap operas we had last year with Pacman Jones, Floyd Reese has made character and leadership his #1 priority in free agency this year.)
Law's injury definitely affected his movements and speed...and it really showed in the beginning of the sesaon...as the season went on he seemed more comfortable and adjusted and made alot of nice plays. He had several key picks that put us into just about every game. How many corners can injure their foot like that and come back to play the way he did? True he wasn't a team leader and not a great role model but the man has skill. Most of his picks were due to being at the right place at the right time which is credited to him because positioning yourself to make plays is a talent.
hes a good corner and a winner, winners make plays and his 10 interceptions show that, hes always in the right place and the right time i think a lot of people on this board always criticize a player whenever they leave
