To Team Tanngini, The Falcons brass led by Rick McKay and Arthur Blank are trying to punk you guys by offering just a second round pick for John Abraham The Atlanta guys are making fun of you A team official confirmed Atlanta reached terms on a multi-year contract with Abraham, but the Falcons were waiting for the Jets to sign off on their offer of a second-round selection in the April 29-30 draft. New York put talks with the Falcons on hold because Seattle has offered a first-round pick, the 31st overall, and the Jets have agreed http://www.ajc.com/news/content/sports/falcons/stories/0318milloy.html?UrAuth=`NbNUObN\UbTTUWUXUWUZT[UaUWU]UaUZUcUZUcTYWVVZV&urcm=y Sign off on what exactly? John Abraham loved Seattle earlier this week "The Seahawks have a first-class organization," Abraham told the Newark Star-Ledger. "They treated me like a king. From top to bottom, I was really impressed. They have a great stadium and a great facility. No matter where I go, Seattle is a great organization." http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/sports/2002873010_hawk18.html http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/football/263498_hawk18.html All parties involved have through next Friday to consummate a deal, because that is the deadline for franchise players to negotiate with other teams until much later in the offseason. According to salary-cap rules, a franchise player must sign a contract with the team that is acquiring him in a trade on the same league business day that the trade is completed. Otherwise, the trade would have adverse cap ramifications for the team that is trading him http://www.newsday.com/sports/print...383mar18,0,2456072.story?coll=ny-sports-print As Gary Bettman told the NHL owners before they cancelled the 2004-05 season "Show some spine".They got everything they wanted from the NHLPA three months later.Don't let Abraham dictate the terms.Either the Falcons pony up a first round pick or he goes to Seattle. If the Falcons continue to low ball the Jets and he refuses to go to Seattle,Johnny should stay in South Carolina Show some spine
Amen Toon If Tangini folds like a cheap suit on their first big test, nearly every Jet fan will know they are out of their league ... just another couple of losers ... so their credibility is on the line in my view, bigtime, and they better not fold
^ They'd be getting ripped off big time if they do that deal. Schaub is a total question mark. Ramsey is more of a sure thing than Schaub and his 2 games of experience. First rounder or nothing if you want Abraham. If I'm Tangini, I'm not even returning Atlanta's phone calls.....We hold all the cards, not Atlanta and not Abraham........
Frankly, I think the 31st is too low. BUT, there really isn't a do or die deadline like they say. There are ways around the losing the franchise tag for the length of the deal. It requiers some help from the trading partner, but you can sign Abe to a one year deal with like a 50 million dollar bonus due in ten days and trade him and he reworks his contract immediately into a real deal. That way you lose the tag for only one year.
I believe this is now incorrect..... All parties involved have through next Friday to consummate a deal, because that is the deadline for franchise players to negotiate with other teams until much later in the offseason. According to salary-cap rules, a franchise player must sign a contract with the team that is acquiring him in a trade on the same league business day that the trade is completed. Otherwise, the trade would have adverse cap ramifications for the team that is trading him This was a part of the old CBA, definitely, but PFT has reported (and even called out Glauber of Newsday on it) that the new CBA doesn't require a team to wait until June to trade him if a deal doesn't get done in 14 days from the opening of FA. Now PFT gets some rumors wrong, but they are quite reliable on contract info such as this. So, there isn't any rush to trade him this year. With Seattle challenging the Minnesota contract offer to Hutchinson, it may take some time for the dust to settle. Seattle and the NFL are challenging the NFLPA and Minnesota on that poison pill portion of the contract offer, but not through an arbitrator, through a Master, which allows for appeals, unlike an arbitrator's decision, which is binding. The Jets will put pressure on JA to negotiate a deal with Seattle in the meantime, and make Atlanta sweat a little bit. There is no rush to trade JA, not this year, and that plays into our FO's strategy nicely.
