JETS' REVIS MAKES EARLY IMPACT By MARC BERMAN Jets rookie first-round cornerback Darrelle RevisJune 9, 2007 -- If Jets rookie first-round cornerback Darrelle Revis thinks he's under a green microscope during this week's voluntary practices at Hofstra, it's because he is. "Darrelle," shouted new secondary coach Mike MacIntyre, motioning something before a play. "Revis," shouted MacIntyre, pointing out something else before the next play. When Revis headed to the sideline, MacIntyre was in his ear. During yesterday's session, Revis practiced with the first team, and not just in nickel situations, as he did Thursday. It was significant. The Jets hope the University of Pittsburgh product shores up the right-cornerback disaster from last season, where four different players started. Jets rookie first-round cornerback Darrelle Revis (looks like Rhodes to me :wink The Jets moved up from 25th to 14th to snatch Revis, shipping away their second rounder and fifth rounder. (The Jets also got back a sixth-round pick). "To me, that shows this organization really cares about me," Revis said. "They bumped up that far to get me. They expect me to be mature about the situation and be business-like." On one play, Revis stuck stride for stride with wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery, forcing an incompletion. The coaching staff pays attention to his every move. "I think that comes with it," Revis said. "In this phase, I'm just starting to get to know the coaches, they're starting to get to know me, too. Right now it's to build that relationship. [MacIntyre] wants me to do my technique right and adjust to the formations, make sure I'm doing the right things." Jets coach Eric Mangini has a lot riding on Revis. "He's trying to get used to the environment; that's a big transition," Mangini said. "I like the way he's been physical at the line of scrimmage. A lot of the same characteristics we saw in college were seeing here." * The Jets are practicing with plain white helmets without the Jets logo, an apparent motivational tool by Mangini. "I wanted to do it without the decals for now," Mangini said. "We'll figure out when we'll give those out." . . . Mangini praised LB Jonathan Vilma for being a leader during these practices. Vilma struggled with the 3-4 defense last season after two strong seasons as middle linebacker in the 4-3, and the Jets drafted inside LB David Harris in the second round to boost the interior of the defense. "Expectations from the two years before, it's actually kind of good they expect big plays, expect big hits, 200 tackles," Vilma said. "Whatever it be 3-4, 4-3, those expectations won't change. It's good to hear that. It's a motivating factor for me." . . . WR Justin McCareins won last week's performance award. "Maybe it will get me a free massage," McCareins said, jokingly. http://www.nypost.com/seven/06092007/sports/jets/jets_revis_makes_early_impact_jets_marc_berman.htm
I can see how you could mix them up but yeah the article was right. I'm really pumped about Revis I hope he has a great career with us.
Good to hear Revis is catching on quickly. I can't wait to read some TC reports on how he's doing and see him in action.
I'm pretty positive it's Rhodes. It's just dark outside so he looks a little different then the official pic because of the lighting.
I like what that article said about Vilma. I was very disappointed with his performance last season but I'm optimistic about him having a rebound year and doing very well as a leader in the 3-4.
Doesn't look like this picture of Revis: http://www.newyorkjets.com/image_assets/4456/revis_darrelle_headshot_large.jpg?1179257648 EDIT - sorry just saw the same link posted above in this thread! TBTF
thats not revis!!! its Rhodes http://www.newyorkjets.com/image_assets/1139/rhodes_kerry.jpg?1157085613
Okay, Revis is going to have to be a shut down corner for us. He NEEDS to be better than Aaron Glenn was (our last 1st round CB).
He really just needs to be as good as Glenn. There have only been a handful of corners in the NFL over the last decade that were better than Glenn. Glenn got picked on the 12 and if Revis on the 14 is as good as him then I can live with the trade up to get him.
While you guys debate the picture. lol Did anyone catch this.... 3-4 or 4-3? My speculating this offseason has been we will see a lot more 4-3 this year, especially since our huge NT pickup is Pouha returning. I really think we'll see more plays that takes advantage of our strengths. We'll see.
If Glenn was 2 inches taller, he most likely would've been a hall of famer...so seeing as though Revis is about 6 ft, if he is as good as Aaron Glenn, that can only mean good things for his and the jets future:grin:
i don?t think so, the 34 worked well at the end of the season and we brought a lot of guys in, that fit the 34 we brought in a ton of specialists, that have much more upside in the 34 than they have in the 43. bowens and wadesworth are situational pass rushers without much ability to cover, and both couldn?t make it as 43 end (pretty much like b.thomas) Hayes has the power and speed to push the pocket from the DE spot and open up blitzing lanes (pretty much like Ellis) and Coleman has the ideal size for a 34 end plus he has a good rush(desprately needed form the blindside). i think vilma said that, cuz many think he won?t be able be as dominant in the 34 as he was in the 43.
I always liked Aaron Glenn, but he was always just shy of being a "shut down" corner. It seemed like there was just something missing. I never felt like he blanketed one side of the field. That's what my expectations of Revis is (at some point in year 2).
